want to end stunting?

stop offering collision insurance to biker's. If you screw up your bike and its your own fault....you fix it out of pocket.
Or offer them a safe location where they can do it
that's an oxymoron. Its like a padded room for playing with hand gernades. Plus stunt parks only allow them to practice so they can be better on the street. Make them pay for their own repairs and when they trash their bikes HOPEFULLY the banks won't be dumb enough to loan them for a replacement. Take your pick: either the banks or the insurance companies will pay for these stunters...I can choose to not borrow money but the state requires me to have insurance to drive.

you know they said the same thing about "drag strips" in the 50's and 60's

Just like race tracks right, it only makes them go out a drive faster on the highways! Good thinking.

yep and guys take their cars to the track, wad them up and claim a deer hit them also...

but much more common with sportbikes. I doubt they'll outlaw our bikes, they'll just drive the cost to own them out of reason through insurance premiums.

You guys must have it tough out there to have so much hate.

yes guys who race are more inclined to seek the adrenaline rush more often. So yes I would say they are more inclined to do dumb things. Many resorted to the track as a last resort AFTER losing or almost losing their right to drive.

you will never resolve a problem like this when dealing with closed minds... Having spent most of my life in the "automotive" biz, I can assure you that few if any racers got their cars fixed by claiming "deer strike" to get a car fixed that was crashed racing on a track.. (adjusters are very good at figuring out crash forensics...)

My guess is that many of the "stunters" that do this on public streets are without even a valid bike license and if they have that, probably no insurance on the bike anyway.. (surely requires a bit of research)

The oxymoron is the statement "I doubt they'll outlaw our bikes, they'll just drive the cost to own them out of reason through insurance premiums."

this is one in the same....

I found quite the opposite of this... most racers are less likely to show off or hot rod the streets...

where did you come up with this idea?

I bet a short poll of racers here might dispel this myth

I guess I'm an exception.

I have always loved racing. Anything from foot racing, to video games, to bicycles. Now as an adult it turned into cars and of course my motorcycle. I learned to ride on a 250cc dirtbike and used it to race against my brother's 125cc shifter kart. I had a 100cc kart of my own which I used against a Yamaha Banshee. The F4 Honda I had I raced against a 2000 R6. My Busa has faced a K6, a ZX-10, and a ZX-9. I also have a couple of top speed runs on the highway under my belt.

All that was done on local highways of course.

Now since going to the track last year May (a place I have only raced at 3 times) I can honestly say I haven't raced a single person on the street. I can also honestly say I have not gone into triple digits more than 3 times in the past year and have gone above 130 only once.

Although the crave of speed is always with me, I KNOW there is a better place for it. I remember making my first pass at the strip and after getting my slip and seeing 11x mph (1/8th) thinking how relaxing it was to do that without having to worry about tickets or cagers cutting me off. THOSE are my main 2 reasons for checking myself on public roads.

In this thread I explain how bad I want to race a particular person but also emphasise that I want to keep it on the track:
https://www.hayabusa.org/forums/?act=ST;f=6;t=82522;hl=

In that post I clearly state:
By this time I had grown out of street racing and told him to meet me at my local track.

I have gotten 2 tickets in the 3 years I've had my Busa. One for running a red light and the other for improper towing. I received both of those tickets while driving my truck and none had to do with speeding. I have never gotten a ticket while on the bike. I'm just mentioning that to show that the right to drive thing doesn't have anything to do with it (at least not with me).

Its almost how I feel about sparring. I live going to my old dojo and sparring against the up-n-coming students. But I'd never hit the streets and pick a fight with someone. As much as I love to compete and test my abilities, I know there is a place for everything.

The public roads are no place for stunting or racing. I have found my safe haven for racing and will only do it there. I think a spot for stunters would do more good than harm.

Now don't get me wrong, I understand where you're coming from. Just like entertainers say they turn to drugs to get the same rush they once got while performing on stage. I'm just saying stunters (like races) should at least be given an option.

This is sort of what I have found to be the rule more often than not..

There is a maturity that comes with your first "real race" and a sense of "belonging"

We did some what I would call internships for the local "probation" dept in Phoenix with the funnycar.. those kids were always "changed" when they did 1 or 2 races with us..

The kids that "stunt" on street I think need this same jump start...

Not every racer behaves on the street, just not natural, but I think the majority do...

No stunting for me. But I see nothing wrong with guys that do stunt. Wear gear and keep it off the streets.

While I don't encourage "Extreme Stunting" on the streets,...
...I'll be the first to admit that I enjoy "Hanging" the front wheel a bit, on some back country road.

I'm a big fan of any kind of talent on two wheels, just don't care for the new laws that are being past as a result of others, that effects me, from being stupid on the street-as others have said,"a time and a place"

Stunting has become to huge to keep off the streets. No matter what laws are passed it's still gonna go down on the street. It can be done on the street safely. I've seen it done.

i love watching it but not on the street. you dont have to watch youtube very long before you see what happens to these squids.

I have read this entire thread and see stunters called "squids" many times now. I am not a stunter by any means. I don't like doing wheelies, stoppies, or burnouts but ride on a weekly basis with many people that do. With the people that I ride with stunting has been done both on the street and off the street in closed parking lots. To tell you the truth of it I have seen more people wreck their bikes in the lots than on the streets. I agree with what most people in this thread have said there is a time and place for everything but classifying all stunters as "squids" would be the same as classifying all of us Busa owners as "street racers" because we ride the fastest street bikes. Sorry for the rant.

its cool bro, i cant speak for anyone else here but im sure im not alone. i dont call "stunters" squids. its a silly nickname for fools who act stupid. i enjoy watching stunts, i dont, but mainly cause ive always been a big bike kind of guy even as a kid my dirk bike was a 350lb. honda fatcat that outweighed me 3 to 1.

no way am "I" stereotyping stunting.

btw, i appreciate you expresing your concern w/o attacking others, thts the best way to clear the air of any misunderstandings
