Substitute Engine Oil

The other day my dealership told me that Mobile 1 Synthetic would be a great oil to use in my 06 Busa. I have never ever used oil for my bike that was not specifically made for the bike (namely Suzuki or Honda m/c oil). Anyone have any input to to this? I do not want to risk any engine or clutch damage... neither do I want clutch slippage issues.

I've been running Mobil 1 full synth: MX4T or Racing 4T since I've had 1,000 miles on my Busa. No probs here.

No oil made for the bike, Any suzuki/kawasaki/yamaha oil is a cheap crap packaged and marketed for different brands.

Mobil 1 is the best easily available oil you can buy anywhere ( WalMart).

+1 on Mobil. It is the only synthetic I have tried and it smoothed out shifting and did not slip the clutch. Amsoil or RP is better I here because of additional additives that help the tranny, but I'm not drag racing. RP is too expensive IMO and I get tired of "Amway" I mean Amsoil people trying to pull you in under their program.

Do you actually think that Suzuki or Honda make their own oil

Motul 5100 semisynth here... no issues and trans shifts like butter... although you will find that oil opinions are like tire opinions though... you go with what you want and according to what kind of riding you do and the ambient temps you have in your area...

In re: "Motul 5100 semisynth here..."

I always thought that semi synth is only half as good as it could be. I use Amsoil full synth for its lubricating and cooling properties in addition to its other qualities. Tranny shifts very smooth and no clutch probs.

How do you change from reg oil to Mobil1 or another synthetic, do you have to make certain every last drop of oil is out before using synthetic? Or is some residual mixing tolerated? Just wondering.

All good motor oils blend well with eachother. Just make sure to drain a hot motor and drain it until it stops. Some even rock the bike from one side to another while draining.

Make sure it is Mobile 1 for motorcycle NOT cars. There is a difference in the slickness (car oil is not good for motorcycle clutches).

since there is really not much of a price difference, choice is a no-brainer for me: I go to my local bike parts store and buy 10W40 oil for motorcycles (of course).

Yeah, I was about to say the same thing. Mobil 1 for motorcycles is great oil. Don't use Mobil 1 for cars in your bike.

You'll be just fine with the Mobil 15w-50 Extended Performance especially if you live in a warm climate .
