So what about legality? I know detectors are legal everywhere but DC and kentuky, but what about shifters? I guess since they can still get a reading they're probably legal? I can't imagine escort would be selling stuff that's blatently illegal. I imagine they'd get in trouble. . . Is it simply a state by state thing?

They can sell you anything legally as long as they include warnings like "check you legislation" or "not intended for street use".
