The Destruction of Los Angeles and Surrounding Areas

I find it strange that no one has posted/started a thread on the devastating fires that have/are reducing so many homes and businesses to rubble.
So far 15 confirmed dead (I'm amazed it's that low in numbers) but the sheer destruction is mind blowing!
In this group here, we must have members that are from or in that area?
I've been watching the YT vids of media assigned journalists riding bikes around the streets and suburbs affected . . . jaw dropping.

I personally went through a devastating earthquake that destroyed most of Christchurch NZ and surrounding towns back in 2011, I was living there at the time and I lost my home, so I really feel for the hundreds of thousands of displaced people in LA . . most did not have their properties insured so it's a total loss with little chance of them rebuilding on the land they own.
Anyway, does anyone have anything to add? Their own story?
Thanks, Kiwi.

…”most did not have their properties insured so it's a total loss with little chance of them rebuilding on the land they own.”

Where did you hear that? Many homes that were lost were multi million dollar homes owned by millionaires. Not having insurance makes no sense. And everything that’s financed has to be insured.

Yes it's telling that it highlights how this is an ongoing issue.
A sad reality........
I've heard of California wildfires for decades now.....

Similar to the wildfires we have out west....I've fought those as a young soldier when we were called out.....I remember having to wear this water pack with a hand pump and going around dousing flashups....

Some had a shovel and had to dig them up and turn the soil to extinguish them....it sure was a hot and thirsty job....

And in past years, they would send prisoners out to clear brush and vegetation.

Now that's considered inhumane treatments. So let them enjoy their weight rooms and cable TV, and we make it less humane by paying people $45/hr to do it.

There is something to that.....in the past "hard labor" used to be a sentence for prisoners....now convicts get all the luxuries of being at home....I've even heard of a few of them running internet scams from inside prison....

My uncle's house in Escondido/San-Diego burnt down about 20 years ago, and they rebuilt it about 2 1/2 years later.
What suprised me was that it was/is a Huge residential area, which blends into the city, and then fades into the mountains and desert.
No doubt fire jumps from house to house and embers fly great distances, but it was/is staggering to think how big some of these fires are, and especially when some start in desert areas outside of the citiies.
I would like to hear more from people in L.A right now, instead of the media too.

I remember hearing pine and spruce trees actually explode when we were deployed to fight wildfires in my youth....

....and those embers would go along way when carried by the wind.....

I'd rather be in a firefight any day....

Not that I have experience in either, but I would rather take my chances with the guns.
After seeing many wildfire videos over the years, watching fire fighters literally surrounded by fire, with only orange glow and smoke to been seen, it must be a terrible way to go, as sadly alot have.
I cannot imagine being in that scenario, especially not being sure of the way out, if there still is one.

Thankfully we soldiers were mostly clearing fire breaks but all of us had fall back points with trucks awaiting us if need be which is more to be said about these "smoke jumpers" that are surrounded by fire.........no thanks.....

A couple times the fires would drive us back.....the heat was unbearable.

Later I became a volunteer fire fighter during my off time and that was intense sometimes.....I was in very good condition and there were times when I was almost at my limit during a structure fire dragging hoses and the like.......I can imagine these structural firefighters in LA fighting multiple alarm fires with no reprieve in sight......

All the luxuries of being at home? Apparently you’ve never been inside a prison.

Nope, and was never a wish to be......

All I've seen is documentaries on them....

They have a bed, heat, meals and internet access......and in some cases video games.....from what I saw on the documentaries that is.....

I've seen inside a couple prisons overseas in some savory countries and they sure didn't look like what I saw on the documentaries I watched.

So you're an ex-con, well don't worry, we won't hold it against you :D
