The Destruction of Los Angeles and Surrounding Areas

The last thing I got shipped to me from Amazon arrived broken.....and I had to return it (they have an excellent return system though).

Hopefully this one doesn't arrive broken.........he sure made a lot of promises that people are hinging on.....

I only wish him good luck in this term.
We keep him around. He is about the best useful idiot we have here. He does what they do best. Lose!
Hi. They will never give Trump and credit for what goes good for Trump. They will say well Biden set it all up and Trump just took it over.

And by next Tuesday, eggs should be 39 cents a dozen and gasoline under $2.00/gallon. All wars worldwide will stop too. I can hardly wait.

Oh, and home interest rates will be 3%, but those living off of investment income will still be getting 3 or 4% on their meager savings accounts.

And unicorns for everyone. It's going to be great. All you need to do is believe the non stop lies.
Hi. NO,NO. Gas will go back to $24.9 cents a gal like it was when started driving..

HI. But when the Dems get
Biden and than Harris back in they can get the price of gas up to $19.99 a gal to save the world. They than can get rid of all the cops and ICE. Just think what a wounderfull world that would be. They could take all the guns away from lawfull people. Now no one will ever be killed by a gun again

What devolved the thread was placing blame above surviving. Anybody that’s been to the Pacific Palisades knows how beautiful an area it is, and a terrible shame this is. The problem is the dry windy climate with a lot of gorgeous vegetation is the perfect recipe for fires. Controlled burns? Yeah in northern Cali or less populated areas.
The rebuilders will figure it out. It’s still easily worth it.
Remember, we all have our ways of communicating. Bee you’re the only one I can think of here that refrains from name calling or partisanship. It’s a good look.
It's a sad thing to see indeed....

I still like what Bill Burr said in his video regarding all the "internet experts" and how they'd make it all better if they were in charge....

When I looked at satellite photos of the Palisade area it appears to be reminiscent of many other subdivisions where foliage is mixed into properties and these properties appear to be well groomed.......the forested area surrounding the subdivision seems to be all encompassing.....I don't know how a controlled burn could have been done in this area.....

Perhaps the forestry service could have gone into the forest to clear out any dead fall but that would mean roads would have to be carved throughout the forested area....it sure looks like a very complex area to put in roads.

I'd say unless a person has physically walked the ground and fully understood what faces them in that area with regards to fire prevention, they don't have a clue what they are talking about in this case.

I think the biggest issue we are facing in this situation is urban sprawl and people living in areas that are at risk.

Hi. They will never give Trump and credit for what goes good for Trump. They will say well Biden set it all up and Trump just took it over.
....I think that's very atypical in this situation....it's happened during each and every administrative turnaround......

The same as each and every president won't admit the guy before him had things sorted out and that they inherited lots of problems....

Hell, I used to see this at a lower level at a change of command where the incoming C.O. would blubber about how he was handed a mess and had to roll up his sleeves to fix everything.....then he goes and the next guy says the same thing and so on and so on.....

It's the game they play....

Disagreement can remain civil. In the absence of that, I have zero problem placing someone on ignore.

Somedays a half a page in a thread is filled with

"You are ignoring content from this user.".

Let them abuse each other for all I care.
Well, we are supposed to be adults here and as such we have certain liberties......

However.......when threads no longer become a point of discussion and devolve into name calling and nastiness and have lost the basis on which they have been started......what's the point?

This particular thread was started by @Kiwi Rider to discuss the destruction of the LA wild fires and has yet again devolved into a political thread with name calling and taunting......

Then we note that nobody is posting except a few most likely because others are uncomfortable doing so......

Get enough of these posts and the next thing you know we start losing regular posters because they don't want to be on this forum to put up with conflict.

I'm stupid and stubborn so I hang on but many others won't do that.

Totally concur. I've complained to the moderators long ago about chronic abuse of the rules here. It's usually the same douchebags doing it.

They have a lot of restrictions placed on them here. About the best you can get is removal of post.

So again Bee, there is an ignore function. It's your own personal ban feature.

In a perfect world, I'd rather not use ignore unless as a last resort as you and I have discussed before...

I'd rather the forum be a better place instead and it can be done by a change of attitude....people have to remember that it is a privilege to be here not a right and this forum is owned by Cap not us.

I can understand passion on a subject.....I'm guilty of this myself....I'm definitely one of the offenders as well and I own that fact.

Unfortunately some feel its a better place by being abusive.

@Blanca BusaLess post is a prime example. The very title of the thread was about Trump's victory. So everyone had a choice to view it or not. It became the most popular thread trending on the board by a long way.

Some folks couldn't stand that. So they felt a duty to try and kill it.

It violated absolutely no rules.

And as a last thought. I have watched you get abused personally. And I have seen you call out people for being abusive. And you were totally correct.

And then you like their post, and give them positive encouragement in their postings.

So I'd offer that you encourage them to stay by accepting their behavior. You've had one in your EV thread, one of the biggest abusers here, say he was leaving your thread.......about 6 times.

And 6 more times you engage with him positively when he doesn't. Has that helped his character improve?

I try and do my best to attempt to bring out the positive in someone and if they post something that I agree with or is positive, I will "like" their post, I have no animosity towards anyone here....

I don't like being the subject of internet abuse but also know there is only so much that can be done to curb it....

I do believe that if we were all sitting in a room together, things would be completely different.

Hi. Bee I have the most respect fpr you and all that are on here. I do not agree with you all the time. What I do with you and others is to try to find out why you think that way. Because I may be wrong and change my mind with more facts.

We will have to disagree here. Character doesn't change because they aren't typing to you.
In my personal experience I have found face to face interactions to be vastly different than an internet action...

Case in point, I used to get some nasty emails from peers or superiors on our secure net while I was serving....I would make a point of going to see these individuals face to face and our interaction was quite different.

I believe this to be true here as well....

Facial and voice tone makes a huge difference in having discussions.

We all have different life experiences which make our interaction here unique and that's a good thing and develops discussion...

It's how these discussions are conducted is the key factor to either learning something or arguing about something which normally devolves into name calling and derogatory comments....

And that is what is driving posters away....we've lost quite a few great people as a result of these interactions...

That's too bad. They should have just used the ignore function. I have about a dozen people that basically have left the site that way. And know I'll be adding another.

In one thread some time ago, a specific user was referenced for something on the topic. I said I wouldn't know, I have him on ignore.

Shortly thereafter 2 others chimed in and said. Me too. We had a chuckle that we had that in common. You just realize, some people are seen as a**holes by some people. And soul mates to others.

Sort of like real life.

Hmmmm. So let's say you have someone who believes he is "highly educated" and disparages you about you not having the intellect to understand him. How do you become smarter to them in person? Let them accuse you of having poor writing skills?

It would surprise you how a person changes when not sitting behind the animosity of a keyboard....

Face to face is an entirely different animal....

I had a peer once send me a nasty email when I was in uniform so I stomped over to his office.....it was the first time we met in person and his first words were "you are a lot bigger than I imagined".......we laughed and got onto business......I did warn him that if he sent me an email like the one he did, I would strangle him with his computer's power cord....

We never had any issues after that and he became a great ally.....

Yep. I'd be surprised.
