not me say of that. From what I've read and seen people there say, one of which was the LA Fire Chief. His emails detail all of its. You can find them easily.

It’s true the Palisades area was a desert decades ago and apparently no fire suppression details were worked into the development. “Cali” as you said, no, it was city and county authorities that weren’t prepared. As for DEI hires, how is it you’re so sure they weren’t (also) qualified?

This was gross negligence from the very top down to the citizens of California and it's districts.
Let's hope they all had fire insurance, and if they didn't than clearly they make enough to rebuild on their own.

Yellowstone lost 1/3rd of it's park for these exact reasons back in 1988
-Poor Forestry mismanagement
-Lack of communication between levels of management
-lack of underbrush maintenance and clearing
-closure of access/logging road which act as fire breaks to slow fires down.

Sadly, the woke cidiots in California failed to learn these lessons, when their situation was almost identical..................Well learn now, or pay later.

I certainly hope resedents have learned a few new lessons now, and will make smart and meaningful changes to their lives, opinions and public policies in the future...................Otherwise they will be learning this lesson again in 15-25 years.

The devastation is staggering......there are lots of before and after shots.....it's eye opening.

I don't know what could have stopped it once it got going........all those structure fires would have been impossible out even if the fire dept was at full strength and the reservoirs were full.....

If arson is determined to be the cause, proper forest management would have only done so much to prevent this from happening.....

Even if it wasn’t arson. California is a beautiful state with the best climate in the country. The drawback is of course the fire hazard (and earthquakes). It seems people always have to assign blame, and if there’s a political angle, all the better. How about the leadership in Oklahoma with tornadoes or the Carolinas with hurricanes?
I’m completely fed up with partisan bs if you can’t tell.

Hi. This is not to belittle what is and has happened in CA. Here in MA Senator Ed Markey said that golbal warming and Trump is to blame for the fires. So what happened to the guy that people caught with a blow torch?

Is it illegal to own a blow torch? And do you think that someone used a blowtorch to start the wildfires in LA? It seems like a BIC lighter or a book of matches would be easier. But that wouldn't fit into the sensationalist story for the red hat crowd, would it?

BTW, I own a few antique blow torches and some oxy acetylene torches. Even a few propane torches. Is that a problem?

Yes. I seem to recall back in like 2019 Trump was discussing the lack of fire prevention of the Ca forest floors. He was laughed at and called names. So this is his fault.

To elaborate on the trump story about forest floors, the orange buffoon told us that people in Finland raked the forest floors, and that was why they don't have huge fires like we do in the USA. He said that the head of Finland told him that, something that the head of Finland denied ever saying. So it was just another of trumps over 30,000 lies while he was in office.

And for that stupid suggestion that we rake our forests along with the lying about it, he deserves to be laughed at. We sometimes have to laugh to keep from crying when it comes to the orange guy.

Maybe you didn't hear about it, but there was a shortage of water for even the California fire departments. Do you really think that the fire trucks will do any good without water?

Some states don't require home ins on places that are financed. Not sure how but I know a few people here in Florida with mortgages and no ins.

And I wouldn't doubt if some of the rich hollyweirds don't have it either.

It isn't usually the states that require insurance to get a mortgage. It's is the lenders that want to be made whole in the case of a loss.

And a very large number of very rich people don't bother with insurance. They self insure. I have a house with no mortgage and no insurance. It's a risk that I'm willing to take. It's also an un occupied dwelling with two garages that also aren't insured. I do have insurance on some vehicles that are stored in the garages though.

California for decades has been neglecting forest maintenance. They weren't doing controlled burns because of the carbon release and perceived environmental damages to climate change..................not to mention residents didn't like the "smell".

Well it's a simple concept, you either maintain it yearly with controlled burns and tell residents to deal with it........................Or every 15-20 years the fires run right through town clearing the bush that has accumulated.

Yellowstone National park learned this same lesson in 1988 when 1/3rd of the park was lost to fire.
Today has a very active forest management strategy including numerous controlled burns every year.

Sadly, these woke entitled cidiots can't figure this stuff out, and continue to make the same mistake over and over again - Let them pay the price for it too both emotionally and financially.

Controlled burns in L.A.? Alrighty then. Maybe start in Beverly Hills and go from there?

There are places that controlled burns work and I don't really think that L.A. is one of them.

My wife and I have a place in Arizona and in the spring we see them doing controlled burns in the mountains about 20 or 30 miles from us. Last one that I saw, I was amazed that they started it when it was pretty windy. But a couple of days later the smoke was gone and the fire was out. We're in the high desert and there isn't a lot to burn at our elevation, but in the mountains behind us, there is a lot of pinion pines that would probably go up in smoke pretty easily, dry or not.

Must be that you didn't hear that the floods in North Carolina were due to Liberals changing the weather pattern. At least that was what I was reading on Facebook from some of the red hat crowd. You can't make this stuff up.

I did see trump change the path of a hurricane with a sharpie, but I didn't know that liberals could do that.

Any objective thinker would have to wonder how much the gasoline if gasoline powered cars contributed to the fires in L.A. My garage right now had about 25 gallons of gasoline and about 30 gallons of diesel in it. In the case of a fire, that wouldn't likely be a good thing.

Wildfires obviously burn huge areas, and can also be very hit and miss due to floating embers starting smaller fires randomly away from the main fires.
However, after looking at alot of pictures online, it seems very strange how many trees are still standing, many not even burned, as well as cooked cars with untouched interiors, meanwhile every structure directly around them is burnt to the ground, and things that should have sucummed to the heat from the fires alone, without being on fire themselves.

A few things that make a difference. A tree has a lot of water in it above ground. And the root system is also a water absorber. So depending on the species they have a lot more moisture that can keep the heat lowered, than other species.

Houses. Can look the same. But they have different roof materials. Some are intentionally higher flame resistant than others. Stucco can be thicker coated and be painted with fire resistant paints in some houses, and not others. Before I left a common roof material was wooden shingles called shake roofs.

And my sister who used to live in the woods of Wa state, mounted sprinklers on all the structures roofs. They were virtually camouflaged out of site. You turned it on and it covered the entire structure with water that started on the roof and dripped down the walls to eventually cover the ground. Their insurance inspector would come out and certify them about every year so they could get their fire policy renewed. So they'd turn it on and we would go get dinner or something. You come back and everything is damp to the touch.

They did the same when they lived in Ca. But it was not mandatory. So the same may be still today. So some houses would remain virtually untouched while the one across the street would burn to the ground.

Helluva rant there OBG. I read four sources that had the story of the blowtorch guy. From the video of his detainment by citizens, he had what looked like a small hand held fuel tank in one hand and the torch/valve mechanism that attaches to the fuel tank in his other hand. The kind you can buy at any hardware store. The video shows him next to a few plastic home size trash cans near a driveway and the road. No fires were seen or started. Each source named him as an illegal.

And all fire trucks aren’t water tankers. They carry personnel and other equipment and it’s not likely that out of state tankers would be driven to California with full water tanks. And (and) no vehicles from another state have to stop in to somewhere in Sacramento to have their engines smogged. Why the hell would fire trucks have to? Who the hell could believe such a story?

As for raking the forest floor. What a great idea! Completely impossible to accomplish of course but a real fire prevention tool…if only. trump has a penchant for repeating tidbits of what is told to him. ‘They’re eating the dogs…showers just drip drip drip’ for example. Even though he said it I doubt that he actually meant for the forest floors to be raked. He says a lot of things w/o thinking them thru.

However, some here may remember that I’ve griped and pointed out for years, that my nearest national park, Yosemite, has the worst forest floor management that I’ve seen first hand out of all the state and national parks and forests I’ve ridden thru. And that’s in eleven states, north and south and as far east as Mt. Rushmore. Downed trees (logs) litter the forest floor in Yosemite NP. If there’s a fire those dry logs will be perfect kindling for an absolutely huge forest fire. I’m 22 miles away.

Who’s fault it this really? The state and federal park and forestry management or their budget? Managers can be trained or replaced. Budgets have to be increased. And where does that money come from?
