Are they even working on it? And just can't figure it out...

I say just cut your losses with that one and pick up a different one that's already sorted...... cough cough........ FS: 2013 GSXR 1000 Race Bike- Only 3500 Miles- Ohlins, JRI, Vortex, Yoshimura - 13x Forums........ cough cough........ :)

Please don't tempt me! I am borderline at that point. Geesh with the exception of ohlins front end..I have done all this and more :(
Hopefully this last guy gets it done SOON!!

I think that is what is making me so anxious now. I will now have an empty spot. Jay you may be right. I may need another 1k back up...lol

Or you just need a single 1k that works! :)

Where i'd be getting nervous is that you currently don't have a track bike at all.... time to raise that 636 back up and take it!

Zx6r :)
Oh I swear that green machine winks at me every time I walk by it. Motor not even broke in yet. 180 miles total. I will leave her alone for now.

Ok Keith - Serious question that you may have some info on. I should of had you ask RTS yesterday!!! :banghead:

So the forecast for next weekend is upper 90's. The current rear slick I have on is a dual compound one: soft compound on the left, medium on the right... I remember talking with RTS about what compounds work best in what climates, but can't remember what they said.

I'm wondering if it's going to be too hot for the soft compound on the left side. Thoughts?

I THINK (don't fully remember) that the guy at RTS said the Med+ compound worked better in cooler weather, which would indicate that the soft would be better in hot... But that doesn't make sense logically to me. ???

How many track days on rear?

How many track days on rear?

Maybe 2 or 3? I'm concerned about the tread life. I know the tire has the life left.. What i'm wondering is how the soft compound itself will work in the extreme heat (greasy, etc)...

Like Motogp: Temps have a lot to do with tire choices. I just feel like I remember hearing Race Tire Service tell me that the hard compound actually works better in cooler temps, which leads me to believe they would say soft compound is better for hotter conditions.. That just goes against my logical thinking..

I'm not sure but Tuf might be able to chip in here. The tires I buy are MED+ Rear (8544) and MED (7455) Fronts - Symetrical. I'm not sure I'm good or fast enough to really make that much difference...How "soft" (what number) is one the other side? 7455 which is Medium, or really SOFT (I don't know the number)...

IMHO: I think the hotter it is, the better a harder option tire works for you. Let's look at MOTOGP for example...what tire do they run when it's cold, and as it get hotter, for the most part, what tire do they go to? They go from softer to harder. I would ASSUME that a soft tire gives better grip in the cold, but as it heats up, gets greasier or wears quicker. It would be my opinion, that if you are worried about tread life or grip, if it's gonna be this hot to run the harder side more...

You can also call RTS anytime and talk to them about it....

P.S. They didn't have any slick rears, so I ended up with a the GPA + DOT Spec rear...was told it's the same construction as the slick, but just has a little bit of tread in it...either way, it's a better tire than I am. I'm trying to decide if I'm gonna replace the rear for it, or just flip the slick I have now for one day...

Your tracksice vendor is correct, soft tire on hot days. However, unless you can run with the boys up front on race day, the difference in a soft vs medium tire will make little/no difference in your lap times. More important than rubber compound for you on a track day is air pressure. OAT determines your cold PSI, adjust accordingly.

I'm thinking the same way you are, which I think makes sense. BTW, the soft compound is the 2662. The rear slick I have on there now is Soft(2662) on the left side and MED(7445) on the right. At the end of last year, I ran the symmetrical MED(7445) rear and it was great for grip AND wear.

So you're saying to keep the tire I've got on there (Soft on left, MED on right side) instead of swapping out for a different one that is harder on both sides?

I don't set PSI based on cold pressures, I set them hot. Would that still come into play here? RTS says hot pressure for their US slicks are 33/23. This should be adjusted based on the outside air temp?

I run the MED+ rear and the MED Fronts....

You may get better grip on the softer tire, but tire life becomes an issue....

Keith - I know what you run and am not asking what you run :)

This tire has plenty of life left and is a take off. Not worried about life for only one day.. I was only asking about the appropriate compounds vs temperatures... :)

Then it sounds like soft will give you the best grip and shortest life....

I'll bring a harder compound just in case. I'll monitor how the soft is performing as it heats up. I figured it should either give me signs based on look or grip level that it's getting too hot for the soft compound..

Point blank I wouldn't ride any soft rear more than 4 days on an aggressive track surface.

You are correct in managing the hot pressure. I like the 33/23 hot pressure. Remember that your tires cool down some before you get to the pits and check the pressure. Adjust accordingly. As the day warms and the OAT increases the air pressure will increase also. From the first session of the day to mid afternoon your tire's psi may increase as much as 2 psi. The tire pressure should remain the same for maximum performance regardless of OAT.
