The Race Card

I am a black male in the south, so unfortunately I do come across racial issues a little bit more than I would prefer to. But let's put some things into the right perspective here. When you are dealing with a people that saw over 400 years of oppression, and regardless of how surpressed it appears to be today are still seeing aspects of racism. I hope no one here would try to deny that. You are going to have those feelings in a person. Let's say that you were running a race against someone and their friends held you back for 400 plus years and then said go ahead and catch him, would you blame yourself for not being able to catch him or would you blame the person that held you back all that time. When you are making one of your traffic stops on a black person, think about the fact that there are some subconscience issues at work here and all that person sees in you is part of the system that they feel has kept them back all this time.
You sir, were never enslaved ( By the way there are THOUSANDS of White people still enslaved to this very day but you don't hear about it) Think i'm BS'n ) Your parents were not enslaved. Your grandparents were not enslaved. Chances are great that nobody in your family has ever talked with someone that WAS! I have.
What happened 100+ years ago has NOTHING to do with todays actions and thoughts. Black people have a higher rate of uneducation and more criminal charges against them as a whole because they Keep THEMSELVES down by the thoughts and values they are passsing on to the younger generations. Before you get mad at the facts look at them. Who is more popular with the Black Culture ... Dr Dre or Dr. Ronald McNair? Dollars to donuts you have never even heard of Dr McNair.

The intention of his post was he is tired of being accused of being a racist by the black people he is arresting. I was in the ride along program with the local LE for a few years and I know what he is saying and agree with him. I've seen a guy with a bleeding arm hanging half way out of a business's window he was attempting to burgularize that says he's innocent and that it wasn't him and that "whitey" is still opressing the black man trying to keep him down while being removed from the window! It's 100% BS   All of it!
There is no reason to flame him. He isn't making anything up. He isn't stating altered facts. And he DANG sure isn't saying anything deserving of being called a racist! He's tired of the BS just as I am.
Yes, I know tons of Black people, Puerto Ricans, Rednecks, Chinese and pretty much any other Nationality you want to name and i ride with all of them. My cop friends ( Even the Black guy with the ZX12R) hear the same Sh!^ about being a black man turned whitey) In my circle of friends there is no Color unless we are poking fun at each other. You'll hear things that would get each respective race shot in public coming out of our mouths followed by howling laughter! Feel free to call me a racist if it makes you happy. I know the truth and so do those that truly know me. You'd just better not get caught saying it in front of them!!
The frustrating thing for the POPO's is that the Black Officers can tell them to shut the F up. If a white cop tries it he's got himself a frivolous law suit!
As far as the foot race scenerio goes... A race is a competition between individuals. Not groups of people ( relays excepted) The person losing the race should blame himself, not his grandfather. Perhaps changing that  idealogy would help things.
At the end of the day I am responsible for MY Actions, sucesses and failures as My son will be responsible for his. What happened to my Grandfather ( Who just happened to spend his boyhood being enslaved) has no consequence.

beat me too it even..

the only people oppressing the black folks in this country ( i refuse to call them african-americans unless they themselves moved here from Africa) are the black folks that beat it into their heads that whitey/the man has got it in for them.

I'm not saying racism doesn't exist... I'm sure there are lots of backward thinking peeps in the world that still have a problem..

The simple truth is.. whether minorities want to admit it or not.. "the man" has gone out of it's way to give them a push in the right direction.. (hell.. even though it's a dismal failure just think about the affirmitive action programs) and large portions of them would rather sit around in their own squaller , blame whitey for their lot in life, and do nothing to better themselves.

white folks do it to though.. it's got nothing to do with race.. it's just laziness... the only difference is white people can't got nothing to blame it on except their own sorry assed selves.

Just for the hell of it.... using the "paying us back for 400 years of oppression" theory does that mean that about 200 years from now they will stop using it as an excuse, get educated, and get on with life?

dig it.

I'm a black man myself and think most read into what he was saying a little tooooo deep.He was just expressing what he felt was a issue and that is one way to get issues solved. If he was to turn the other cheek, walk away, ignore it and not voice it that same statement may have turned in to more anger towards the sitiuation and that's what starts racism and the ideality of the klan.I grew up in the south surrounded by the Klan and it made me a better person today. The idealism of the klan is people were told to keep their mouths shut and keep it to yourself.I see no color but only a person's character and actions.I look at life thru a blind man's eyes.I look at life like I do when I'm asleep everything is black.

I got a good one for you to tell people next time they think your not a racist and when I was doing the LE thing I used it all the time.Next time anyone says there being held down cause their any race, ask them for the name of that person and you will call them yourself and tell them to leave them alone, watch their facial expression.Everytime after that that you make contact with that person you will never here it again...Take my word for it...

I am nowhere near a racist person, and I agree with MoosesBusa. Most of the black people who are saying they are being oppressed dont even have any family members who were slaves. As for being oppressed and still trying to "catch up" as Mach5 said, have you ever looked in the newspaper for jobs, or seen job advertisements on t.v., they all will say minorities are encouraged to apply. Why do they have to say that?? I dont get it? Im a typical 25 year old white guy trying to get a job as a leo. Ive been trying now for about 7 months and still no luck. Ive never been arrested and there is nothing of any kind on my record. Now i know some will get upset at what im about to say, but think about it. If there are 9 white guys and 1 black guy who are all equally qualified for the job, who do you think will get it? Now if there is something that makes the black guy a better candidate for the job, then yes he should get it, but i dont think that he should get it just because of the fact that hes black. Im not saying that thats always how it is either, but in my academy class there were a total of 28 people, and only 3 were black. I personally think that those people will have an easier time getting a job, and i think that once they are working they will come across black people who call them sellout or various other names just because they are doing their job. I and i know everyone else does too, wish that everyone could just overlook peoples skin color and judge them by what kind of person they are. There is white trash, there is black trash, there is mexican trash and so on. Every race has them, just like every race has the decent, hard working people. Everyone needs to just get over the past, especially if it didnt affect you and start working towards a better future for your kids and grandkids.

Ahem....

Humm well I'm not a racial person I try to treat people with respect as I want to be treated. I'm a Asian LEO in this little town I deal with blacks, whites, asians, and hispanics. I feel your PAIN about when you are out here tring to do your job and some one pulls the "Race Card" out. It happens to all of us in our line of work. On a funny not I had this happen to me the other day ... There his a high population of Hispanics in this area and when I made this traffic stop a young Wannabe Thug stated I pulled him over Driving While Hispanic.. Well I done my job and what I needed to do. I guess lots of people don't relize that we are out here doing our jobs and its nothing personnal thats what we get paid for .. but also you and I know it is a Double sided sword even if we do right we will always in other peoples eyes we are doing wrong. Its the pros and cons about the job of a officer.I hate to say it but the Race situation will go on and on until We all kill one another. Just keep up the good work and try not to take it Personnal Bro. Just my two cents worth.

I agree with Mr Kesler. I see the same thing here in South Texas all the time when it comes to hiring. However, here, if you had 9 White guys with equal qualifications and 1 Hispanic or Black guy with less qualifications, the so called minority will almost always get the job. Now that is reverse discrimination. How could that be. I thought discrimination was a bad thing. And what is this crap about stating in a job posting that you must be Bilingual. Are we not still in America. Now back to the job issue. If all the people, all races, worked as hard to get the experience and/or qualifications for a job, then that should be all the decision is based upon.  Not that one or the other was underprivilaged or held down in some way. Or something that happened 150 or 200 years ago. If there is an obstacle is in your way you should overcome it by working harder than the next guy. Not rely on the system to carry you through because you are a minority. Ever heard of social promotion. It runs rampant down here. It seems that is always the first thing said these days when someone does not get something they want, that they were discriminated against.

Unfortunately like I said earlier there will always be racism in this country. The black man has been enslaved literally since the beginning of time. There are alot of people believe that the Black man was the curse God gave to Cain after he killed his brother Able. Genesis Chapter 4....there is some people believe that when Cain was sent out to the land of Nod that the land of Nod was Africa where he would meet his mate and start a new life. Need we forget and its a historical fact that the Black man was enslaved by there own kind and sold to the white man from the beginning of this country and before in other European countries. The Civil War itself begot brother against brother and many lost there live's in part by defending the right that every man regardless of color had freedom. So from a historical point of view I can understand his point of view, but sometimes I think we all have alittle prejudice in us in some form or another...its how we allow it to think or act on that says our character...another .02 cents worth..

Unfortunately both of you missed the point. Let me say first of all that on a personal level I know that if I am going to make anything of my life it is up to me. I was raised in a very educated household. My father was involved with the start to the civil rights movement and was a minister that stood right along side with Dr. King, Dr. Abernathy and quite a few other names that you would not be familiar with. To this day there is still an attitude that my father has towards the white race. Do I think it is right, NO. But do I understand it becasue of the things that he went through, yes I have to. Most people believe that because we are allowed to sit in the same restaraunt and eat, that somehow makes everything alright. Just so you will know it does not. You mentioned that the oppresion times shouldn't count for the reason that some blacks act the way they do now. WRONG. Until you can change a person's mindset you will still have the same feelings that existed years before. And if you are honest with yourselves you do have to realize that has not been done. The bible says as a man thinketh in his heart so is he.

You mentioned being in ride alongs with your friends, I was a LEO. When I made a traffic stop I was always a little more on edge stopping a black than I was a white. Was it because of the black person being so bad, no it was because of my mindset. The things that I was lead to believe by the media and other issues around me. Take the two pictures on Yahoo news. Black male was looting food, but the white couple had found some food. You can get people to believe anything when you keep it in front of their eyes long enough.
By the way I do know who Dr. McNair is because I take the time to educate myself on these things. But who does the media make more important to blacks and whites Dr. Dre or Dr. Mcnair. Next time you are looking at the news, Take a look and see who they choose to interview. Will it be the intelligent brother in the suit that can get his point across well. No, it is always going to be Pookie with the doo-rag on his head. Why? because perception is reality.

At this point, nobody is being held back anymore, if anything minorities are being put in front of whites for jobs, thats why on applications it says "women and minorities encouraged to apply". Nobody is holding anyone back, get over it. Mach5, how many people out there actually have family members that they know and talk to, have been slaves? Probably not too many. Some blacks use the slavery and oppression excuse to act the way the do, not all but some. Even if your grandfather was a slave, shouldnt you try and make a better future for yourself and stop dragging out the past? Just because your grandfather was a slave at one point, doesnt give you the right to act like and animal and blame in on oppression.

My family NEVER enslaved anyone. Most slaves sold in Africa were sold by their own, it's called tribal warfare. Racism is still around and i find it's coming alittle more from the Black side. Just hear people talk about the Black Panthers, you never really hear bad things, yet it was just a black version of the KKK. Just as hateful, just as evil.
It was my upbringing to be of the helpful nature and to treat all men equal. I do, but damn,it's through my life's journey's that my experiences with human nature tend to make you rethink your values in people.
I wish i could get everyone in church and get everyone on the same page. There is an ultimate universal, a perfect center for an imperfect world,  It's God.

Just do the right thing in life and help your fellow man, it's never easy to fight the good fight. You just have to keep going.

How can anyone purport to KNOW the proper way to behave when all the races are mixed up in one place? America is the only country that has every other race on the planet living amongst every other race on the planet.

No other country in the world has anywhere NEAR the diversity that the United States does.

Go to China and try to tell them that there should be more white people in their movies....

Go to Italy and tell all of them to have more restaurants with hotdogs on the menu....

Go to Africa and demand that more japanese people should make up an equal amount of their political leaders, and governmental decision making.

Go to Russia and demand that there be a black person on every city council.

White people are just as often a minority in many of these countries...and you dont ever hear white people complain of racism.

You never hear a chinese person blame racism. You never hear it from the japanese, the koreans, the italians, the spanish, the french, the arabs, the swiss, the irish, the australians, - none of those ethnicities cry about racism.

So why might that be?

Racisim is kept alive by those who summon it as an excuse. If that is "you", then it's YOUR fault.

If it is not, then welcome to progress.

I say its all bullshit, the way to peace is stop bringing it up....white people who talk about race cards are only adding to the problem...just keep your mouth shut and try to get along...do your part, dont expect the other person to do his part.
I don't really have a problem with what he said, and I'm not racist.  I'm not a cop or whatnot..   You don't have to be to see how some minorities abuse racism.  Heck, just turn on CNN, or FOX news anytime you want.

I don't see how some of you are considering him a racist.. He's just talking about some crap he has to put up with his job.    I got no problem with that.

I know bent valve suggested just ignoring it and keeping your mouth shut.. etc.

I don't get that at all..

It's like saying... "Yeah, what your doing is wrong, but your just a poor minority.. so I'll let it slide."

There is no way to solve a problem with out talking about it...    Ignore it and it will only become more common place.

Why? because perception is reality.
Absolute pap and nonsense in addition to being a self-defeating premise.

The reason is because 'Pookie' will be accepted while the 'intelligent brother in the suit [who] can get his point across well' is considered a sell-out.

Just look at the flak Bill Cosby is receiving for telling the truth...

You just hit the nail on the head and drove it all the way to the pine...

Hence my quote:
What I think most people miss in their fascination with the shiny coin of racism is that it has two sides... [/QUOTE]

Racism is a tool - a politically correct tool...

It starts with what we teach our kids and then passed from generation to generation, let me give you a fine example...Last year I went to pick my daughter up after school, she was in the 7th grade. As I waited for her to come out I stood up by the brick wall close to where the kids come out. My daughter came out and didn't realize she had passed me, but behind her was two Black boys whom yelled at her and said hey "Bit*h how about giving me some of that white pu$$y, do you want some of this Black d*ck, I about damn near fell over, Oh I was pissed I went up to the boys and said come on your coming with me to the principal, they looked at me and said f*ck off man we don't know you, I proceeded to shout at a teacher to get the principal and to make a long story short they got suspended for 3 days. The principal informed me later it was a good thing I didn't touch them even to grab there arms to bring them in cause all hell would break loose, all the school needed was to have someone say a White man came in here and attacked to Black boys,, so to me it begins at home, our children are a direct reflection of ourselves. You teach them to respect others and not have any racial barriers and they turn out fairly good for the most part, but you teach them to hate, and be prejudice then you got your hands full. On another note I also seen a Black boy running his mouth to a teacher when she said for him to sit down in the office, he told her to F*ck off and I about died right there, I looked at him and said boy you best set down before the police get here and his response to me was Im not a boy I had to earn my name as a man....I replied then grow up...the bottom line is this you reap what you sow, sow good fruits your harvest will be full...sow bad things and life can be hell on wheels....
