Tip On Removing Phillips Screws

After reading hundreds of posts about the caution you need to use removing phillips screws I thought I would add this tidbit advice on making it less prone to slip and a better grip on those pesky screws. Before inserting the screwdriver in the screw dip it into some valve grinding (lapping) compound that can be purchased at any auto parts store. The fine compound will work. Even if the screw is partially stripped by prior removal this will help tremedously. An old mechanic showed me this trick and Believe me once you try it you will see (feel) the difference it makes.

so if we licked the end of the screwdriver and dunked it into pixie stick powder stuff would it work the same?

I'm just messin' with you dude... this is a good post and I hope I remember it the next time I'm having problems.

Even better, an impact screwdriver. Tap the end of it and it forces it into the groves and turnes it at the same time. About $10 at the auto parts store.
