Tire suggestions

The Angels outlast the Storms for you? The Storms are the thickest tire rubber wise I've ever seen. Some thick mutha's  I love the fact they stick awesome wet or dry (very confidence inspiring) and last forever

7500ish out of the storms (rear) 11k out of the angels (rear)

same area, same roads, close weather, same bike, same driver.

I'd suggest everyone use more than one factor (Mileage) when making tire choice decisions!

Just do the cruiser move for ultra mileage. A car tire.

lol the whole premise of this thread is tire durability. But you are right. there are mutiple things to consider.

I do have a thought though....

I ran 9k of the miles on the Angel commuting and my cross country trip. Then I arrived in Southern California where I was promptly (first saturday) greeted by Scar, Lamb, and others. the last 2k of those miles were me spanking the twisties of SoCal. never once did I lose traction. even with white roads(snow). The only reason I changed tires was because i was wanting to get down on track days.

idk just my thoughts.

Tuf I agree with you but as flat as it is here I don't think I could make a bad decision on anything . If I lean farther than it does when it's on the kickstand it's a miracle . Just looking for a tire set that will be more durability oriented than stickiness or handling .

Not all ride like you. Not all have access to the roads you do. Not all want to ride like you or could if they wanted to. Not all have the same needs in a tire as you. So why would they base their decision to buy whatever like you do?? Oh I am sorry! We ride a sportbike so if we are not riding like you we need to sell it and buy a Harley right?

11,000 miles on a tire is rediculous... I cant wait to get my pirelli angels on her in 2 months when i get back from cali

Well let me brush you fellas up a little on tires. As has been hammered on many threads in the past, your tire is the only salvation you have between your arse and the pavement. And because you live in a flat state with no need for lateral traction, keep in mind the most deadly accident that claims lives of bikers is a vehicle turning into the path of the bike. And may I remind you, many of those accidents could have been prevented had the rider not locked one or both tires thus loosing total control of the bike. Once you loose control of the bike your fate is sealed.

Just today I read of a biker dying in a collision with a Honda Civic that made a left turn in front of the bike. The bike was on it's side when it hit the auto as was the rider who was pronounced dead at the scene. Tires that would not have dumped him on his arse may not have saved him but at least would have kept him upright giving him a chance to avoid the crash!

Remember when BA BUSA (Better than average rider) crashed putting him out of work for months. Rich was on Avon Storms when according to him was rubber necking an auto crash when the traffic came to a stop. His avons failed him and dumped him on his bum sending him to the ER with broken bones.

It seems to happen quite often. Loosing traction on high mileage tires. Ride what you wish and enjoy the ride. I simply want each and every one of you to be aware that you don't get stick and mileage in the same tire. It doesn't exist! The higher the mileage, the less traction available. And for goodness sake, don't get caught up in thinking you'll never need straight line traction since you never use lateral traction!

Traction is your friend no matter how you ride! Braking is just like cornering, the less you know about it the better traction you actually need! I'm not advocating buying the bubble gum tires for everyday street use. I don't! I do however prefer something with moderate grip on the front. When I get on the brakes, I want to stop, QUICKLY and the only way to accomplish that is to stay upright.

Ok well i havent had my tires too long but i bought bboth front and rear pirelli angels and they are bad mother truckers ...my opinion so far ive rode in rain and with pretty high winds went 3000 miles i went from decatur il up thru michigan into canada to newyork from newhampshire to vermont and down to main and massachusets and thru pen. and ohio and indiana and back home it was a long ride alot of gravel and bad roads and to tell you the truth my tyers are still good i mean they are not flat in the center check out compacc.com they have good prices on them

sorry for the essay my .02

All good points Tuf . So lemme rephrase my request .
What tires are 60/40 life/sticky ?

I hear you and if anyone has a good chance of having a car pull out in front of them it's me with a million grannies all around me .
The HPXs I have are around 6,000 miles and only now showing flat spot and they grip great . Just looking for a diff flavor this time is all .
As always I love to listen and learn from those who know more .
Thanks :beerchug:

not to jack this thread, but does any manufacturer make a set of tires that are a softer compound in the front and a stiffer in the rear. usually my rear shows the signs of squaring off b4 the front. my front usually is ridable when i change tires. however i like to change both. so what do you say about that tuff...any ideas. im in the same boat as many others. live in wichita, ks. flat as a board.

If i lived in states were it is flat i would be on a car tire. I had a car radial on the back of my harley back in 74. it worked great. And if i was back in a flat state i would have car radials on my busa. But around the SF area it probbally would not be good.
