Tires and Nails.....

So I discovered a tear in my stock BT56 last week at 1500 miles and decided not to chance it and get a new tire. The tear was horizontal across the tire and I couldn't stop thinking about it just opening up on a hard acceleration. Probably wouldn't have happened but you never know. So I went with a BT014 as a replacement. 200 bucks mounted and balanced and I was out the door. Ten miles back to the house, everything is fine. Go out the next night (Thursday) with a few friends and rack up another 80 miles. Today, I go outside just to give the bike a good once over and what do I see? A Damn nail right in the center of the tire. Put some spit on it and sure enough it's leaking. Checked the pressure, 25 psi.

So I refuse to throw it away and go get another one so I took it to a friend of mine who works at Goodyear and had him patch it from the inside. The nail was only about the thickness of a pencil lead. I think it should be good. Anyway, Make sure you check you tires guys and gals.

Aint that a b1tch! Last thing I picked up in a tire was a spoon handle in the tread side of out VW. It looked pretty funky, I shoulda took a picture...
Back to your tire: it's gonna be @ the back of your mind til ya get another tire...

There is construction going on near my job. I have to pass in front of the site to get to and to get home from work. Everyday when I arrive there, I check my tires for nails. Also when I leaveand pass the site, I stop at a nearby gas station to check before I get on the expressway.

The fact that I have been doing this for the past year or so (previous bike included) and never found anything, I thought I was just being paranoid. Now I see those checks are actually time well spent.

..I now.. stay away from those routes of travel.

My OEM tires had like 1500 miles on them when I picked up my first nail . patched it and got 5500 miles out of the tire. Then 1000 miles ago I get a new set of Diablos . 3 Days later a friggin screw in my brand new tire ...patched it too . Next week I'll get a new tire cause I'm going back to a 190 from a 200. The 200 just doesn't have enough turning edge on it for me . No railing on a 200 for sure .

iv'e got through 3 diablo corsas in 1 month!!!! Now that is bad luck.1 nail 1 screw and 1 pot rivet to prove it!
oh ,and no money in my account:(

It's the fuggin construction people!! Just take a look in the back of one of their trucks. Nails, screws, rolls of nail gun nails all over the place. It's really bad down here with all the new home construction. I guess these fastners must be damn cheap, not to worry about loosing half your inventory of them out the back of your vehicle!! When I was a kid, my Dad worked as a carpenter during his summer vacations (school teacher) I used to spend hours gathering dropped nails at the construction sites. Nowadays, it's just like fuggit if half of them fall out of the back of the truck!!! If I pissed off any construction people, I'm sorry. Maybe it's just the low rent MFers we have down here.
