This is what you want NEW IMAGE seat...  same guy that makes tobin seats for him...
I don't get it. If Tobin doesn't make Tobin Seats, what's he been doing all these years. Ntm the GB's we done all together for Tobins. Why weren't we calling them New Image seats 4+ years ago when Tobin came on the scene if it wasn't Tobin making Tobin seats. Tobin is household name in Busa community, now this New Image person comes magically on the scene after all these years to say Tobin have never touched Tobin Seat. Still don't get it. Nobody is wondering about this? Maybe I should be asking who's got the patent.

Btw, I've got the stock on there right now with Second Look seat cover.

30K on Corbins

10K on Suzuki Gel

40K on Tobin Seat

10K+ & climbing on the stock. Will go through 80K of traveling on busa this year.
well pashnit which one is better for long hauls, or short days if they're any different

That is an easy question... In business there is always guy that has the money and the vision. Then there is the guy that actually does the work... Once the guy doing the work gets tired of doing all the work and getting no credit, what do you think he does? He branches off and does his own thing. I can tell you first hand that I have seen the boxes at new image waiting to be shipped to Tobin. There is no patent for upholstery work...

This is not a new story it happens all the time. Look at OCC, Boyd Coddington, Miami Ink, etc"¦. The list goes on and on"¦
Sounds like somebody was the brain, and somebody else was the braun. Tobin came up the idea, and contracted out to have his ideas built and marketed to we the busa community? But Tobin has never touched or built a Tobin Seat is what your telling me. Just hard to swallow after all these years. If that's true, then very smart guy indeed!

Btw, I think you likely could patent a seat. It's the idea and design you patent. Who cares who does the work. Someone would own the rights to the shape and design. My dad is an engineer (now retired) and has 15 patents and I just grew up with those things up on the wall.

Here's mine btw.

The answer to this one actually is it depends on application. Basically what are you doing with the bike?

I had Corbins on my FJ1200 (back in the day), it was great seat, flat and hard, but comfy. My ZX11D (also back in the day) I went to Hollister this time and had them custom build me a solo gunfighter. It fit perfect and up to 800 mile days on that bike (yes, my ass hurt!

)

The advent of the Busa, I've never liked the look of the Corbin on the Busa, but definitely a personal preference there on looks and comfort. Always ride solo (my wife had her own bike back in pre-kids days) all the time, so two up non-issue.

I tried the Suzuki Gel for a season, it was an improvement I thought at the time over stock, but that urban legend that it gets hot- so true! So weird the first time that happened, I thought the battery (underneath the seat) was on fire after 3 days of riding. Short rides, you never noticed it. So if you are day-rider, or recreational rider, Gel would probably work fine. Plus it 's cheap and you can buy them anywhere (forum, eBay, etc).

Ya Tim I've read several posts where Tobin stated that he sends out the work and always has, subing out work or brokering is nothing new to many industries, dosen't bother me a bit, what's important is that the man stands behind the product he sells not to mention it highly improves the comfort level for those long rides, looks pretty cool too.

Probably the genius of the design to the Tobin Seat is the shape and it's varied application. You can travel on it, drag race with it, and it has the Bling down bar none. There is no comparison when it comes to looks with the Tobin. So if you want looks- go Tobin. Drag Race? Tobin. Travel? Tobin. My longest day on the Tobin was probably 5-600 miles of twisty riding day. 20 hour days sort of thing, leave house at 4 am, get to twisties at dawn and ride all freakin' day!

The only catch to the tobin shape is you do a lot of boulevard commuting, Tobins have sharp edges along the sides, something you'll only notice at stoplights really. Doesn't show in pictures, but it's there. Never notice that while riding. Again- depends on rider, inseam, shape, weight, yadda, yadda.

If you are short, Tobin works great, as it drops you down an inch. Plus riding stock vs. Tobin back to back- Tobin, you sit IN the bike rather than ON the bike. It's a marked difference and a major characteristic to the shape.

If you do alot of canyon riding, track days, or all-day twisties- you can't hang off with the Tobin. Tobin Seat plants you in that shape. It holds you in place. I would ride with guys that were draggin knees in front of me, keeping up (or leading), and my hips never moved. Just uncomfortable to hang off.

So this season to change things up, gone back to the stock. Much taller than the Tobin and it rotates you up and forward (I'm 5'9, 165) so more weight on bars and front tire. It's subtle difference, but it's there. And yes, I can hang off all day long. Running 500 mile days on stock, and with plenty of breaks, not least bit sore.

i was thinking about a new seat myself and here was the thing that scared me about the tobin. i am 6'1" and the droppong of 1" in seat height means 1" less leg room which bothers me know with my stock seat. any thought on this from taller riders? oh and i tried the buell peg mod and didnt like it so that is out of the question of trying to gain leg room back.

Corbins have nice backrests for passengers... if your mrs. is a usual passenger you might want to consider getting corbin, or at least for passenger seat.

I am 6'4" and have a tobin with stock pegs/rearsets. It doesn't bother me at all on long rides.

Ive been running corbin seats for over 20 years and have had them on 21 dfferent bikes. i love them i'm running a Tobin on the busa now but looking for a deal on a corbin. I have no natural padding so the seat can make or break a bike for me. i couldnt ride my gsxr 1000 for more than 20 minutes before actual pain set in i put on a corbin and 300 miles was no problem. I'm hoping to find one some one didnt give enough time to break in. a corbin wont really be broken in to fit you for about 4000 miles then its heaven. I do realy like the loook of the Tobin and how it holds the rider in place.

where's the gel seat option???!! never had a tobin but i did the corbin and hated it. its like a horse saddle. maybe cos am a smaller guy. with all that said, i have a Gel and i love it. could ride for miles w/o any discomfort at all

Have a gel now on my 08, it's better than stock, but I wished I'de spent the extra up front and bought the Corbin, Had Corbin on other bikes and they're great, they keep you in place, but can still move around comfortably. Actually feel like they take some pressure off my wrists too.
I am always slowly sliding into the tank on this gel seat. Any Corbin haters wanna trade?

For LD riding the harder the better go Corbin. I like moving around on the seat actually if you're doing 750 to 1000 miles in a day you need to move around on the saddle that's why I like the Corbin. I had Suzuki Factory Gel seat and did not care for it at all.

If I had a Beemer I would use a Russell "Daylong" seat. Nothing better IMO. Wardie IBA

I really like the Corbin look and the fit / finish are very nice... BUT I have had 2 of them and sold them after 200-500 miles. I know they said it needs to "break in" however my butt and lower back couldnt wait. Very firm seat and hurt my back to use it. Really shows that everyone is different... I would like to try the Tobin.

I've had all three and the Corbin is the most comfortable for me. The stock seat sucks. The gel seat gets to hot and doesn't dry out after getting wet very quickly. It wasn't any better then stock for comfort either. The New Image seat feels uncomfortable with the raised part at the back pushing on my tailbone. Maybe I'm to tall for it @ 6'. It's also to wide between the thighs when stopped at a stoplight. It is the best looking seat though. The Corbin is very firm. I sold my first one after riding it only 300 miles. Didn't like it. I bought another one to give it a fair trial and now I'm hooked. I've ridden 3000 kms in 3 days, no problem.

I have a tobin on mine and Jules since 05. We have done many 300+ mile rides and love them.
