He is a pretty nice guy, and he has a good woman and family here in town to help out. I also could have done the same thing. I think that I will put it up and roll it over with my other hand instead of using the engine. This is not the kind of thing that comes to mind when I think motorcycling accidents. A bullet hit me in the front of my left quad once during a training accident, but I healed. I guess I just always think that it will either take my life, or I will heal. I really don't spend too much time thinking about the other. I have carried a firearm every day for years, and I have made no mistakes because of good training, good judgement and good discipline. We should exercise the same with our motorcycles. Again, I appreciate you showing respect for what could have just as easily been one of us, by holding any sarcasm. I just wanted for others to benefit from this tragedy.

A local top ranked road racer was just released from the hospital. It was not a racing accident or even a riding accident. He had been cleaning his chain on a stand with the engine running and the trans in gear. the rag that he was using got sucked into the rear sprocket, taking his hand with it. His right index and middle fingers were cut off and his right thumb was shattered. He is (was) right handed. The surgeons were not able to re-attach his severed fingers. he is only 30 years old. Out of respect for him and his family, I will ask you to hold any smart comments. We all know that he made a mistake, and he has paid a terrible price for it. I am just posting this in the hopes that none of us makes the same mistake.

Accidents don't just happen they are caused by people. Everyone does that "duh" thing now and then. I am sad to hear of a youth that will have to forgo life maimed. God speed his recovery!!

I friend of mine lost his fingers the same way,he just wasn't thinking.Things will happen when you are not safety minded. Hope he recovers soon.

Bad deal. That's what the "shark guards" are for. Keeps your hands and feet out of the chain and rear sprocket.
