If you don't like sports, don't watch ESPN.
If you don't like motorcycles, don't buy one.
If you don't like porn, don't order the Playboy channel.
If you don't like the Shack, don't click on it!

Remember the Viper vs. Busa post which came around a few months ago? The guys over at Viper Alley were loving it, but the Busaboyz were livid! For nearly a month, that was the main focus here at the org. Many newbie questions didn't get as much attention as they normally do due to all the attention being focused on that one thread. Had the org had the Shack back then, it would have been moved there and it would have business as usual in the General section.

Then you have people like Phantom12. He's calmed down quite a bit now, but you all remember the conflicts he caused in the General section nearly everytime he posted. Had the Shack never come about, many members would have left due to the rifts created by bike vs. bike topics. The Shack is nothing more than an "R" rated version of the Random Thoughts section.

The org is flooded with info. There is a section for modifications, 1/4 mile, top speed, new members, general discussions, maintenance, and even a classified section ... not to mention the vastly over-looked search engine. The Shack is not the most informative section here, but it was never meant to be. Read the decription:

Smack Shack
Almost anything goes... other bikes, feuds, etc.
No heavy profanity, NO nudity!

Simply put if you are looking for information, click on the respective category. This site was made to be informative and should be just that, but all work and no play isn't very healthy.

True. It don't get more clear and concise than that. Makes more sense than almost al the other posts put together. It should make a decision, to stay or go, a little easier now.

Read my reply to Spigga's post here.

Personally, it's easy to see both sides, BUT this site was created on the ideals of someone with very different intentions. It was working that way. I can very easily not go to the smack shack or ignore threads that may be offensive/upsetting, but the BIG picture here is what captain envisioned for this site. Whether you agree with 'em or not, he still runs the place and we're all still members here...

Just keep that in mind before some of you guys start ripping the board apart...

Maybe I'm naive, but I did think of the smack shack as somewhere everyone could go and talk up their rides, cyber fight with guys on other bikes, etc...it was a good idea, but when things get too personal and threatening to board members, perhaps it's time to either re-write some rules there or trash it...

Just my .02...

captain did not create the smack shack... I did.

my fault, nobody else's.

if HE wants it gone, it will be gone.

if he says let the membership decide, then no matter what I do, someone will have a problem with the final decision.

so.... I'll just sit back and watch the fireworks.

I'm all for keeping it if that's what the masses want, however, I think it may be time to modify and/or clarify some rules...like, no personal threats towards other members. Stuff like that cannot be contained within that single forum...it will spill over and every time two guys see each other posting, they'll stir it up again no matter what forum they're in...most forums, no matter how shady they may be, spell out things like "no personal threats", so I don't think that's out of line...

I don't think you did wrong by creating it Chris...I just think it's being misused, at least that's what I'm hearing. I'll be honest, I didn't witness first hand what's gotten everyone in an uproar.

No one to blame here...just circumstances that have evolved... smile.gif

I agree Chris.. I think the original intent of the Smack Shack was a good idea on your part, but as Michelle said, I think it is just being misused.

I agree with the last 2 posts. Although it is being misused, it is not being done so by all who post there. If the Shack wasn't around, those misusing the Shack would simply misuse Random Thoughts or the General section.

...which I mostly agree with. I don't think it should be a "rule" for the Shack ... it should simply be a thing of common sense used across the entire org.

Unfortunately, sometimes you need to spell out "common sense" things to people...and with the open-ended 'rules' for the shack listed as such, people are left the idea that it's truly a free-for-all... blush.gif

Smack talk is a given on any section depending on topic. But yes having the section like Smack Shack people will be a little more ballser on being rude with thier comments. Why not just rename it or replace it with a Humor section. A place where we can post jokes and funny pics.

I vote - "get rid of it" This, in my humble opinion, it is nothing but negative sh*$% that does not serve any purpose other than dissing others members. Why would you want to do that?rock.gif I think that hayabusa.org should be a supportive and positive place to be.

lurk.gif Smack will happen regardless of there being an 'official' place to smack. It might get deleted/moved etc, but it will still happen. I believe it's how u choose to respond to those things. If you participate, consider yourself fair game hahaha. I like to stay out of that besides a little ribbing-smack with a select few (ya know who ya are!) and eat popcorn

CHEERS!
