My father was a road engineer for 20 years.. There are no weight scale triggers.
The two most common are magnetic & light senor.
The one motorcycles have an issue with is the magnetic. As stated above, there is just not enough steel in modern bikes for them to set off the trigger. You can contact your local road owner, of course you need to know which one (city/state, county) and they may adjusted it, if they want to.
There are also hot spots in the magnetic loop. Some areas will place a white X on that spot. But the hottest spot is generally where all the lines meet. Put your greatest mass of metal (ie the engine) over that spot. That will increase your chances of triggering.
There are generally 2 or 3 loops as you approach the stop line, I try to cross the hot spot on each one as I approach.

I ride the sensor line and like stated stop where the sensors intersect. I haven't had any problems. Will remember the kickstand trick. Thanx.

Always make right hand turns, right on red is allowed in florida. Then make a u-turn to get rid of chickenstrips....lol.....I don't know if the green light trigger things work ,I always thought they were a scam, but have heard of the kickstand thing if you place it right over the loop in the asphalt...

Yea, they passed a law last year in TN, that let,s bikes turn left on red, because the lights did,nt change.
I do the kickstand thing all the time. Also watching for where the most lines intersect is very useful.
They are metal detectors but the mass of aluminuminium (whatever) is not enough to trigger it.
Also, if you shut your bike off and start it again, the EMF from the starter motor can be enough to trigger it.
I've heard of people putting a good sized magnet at the lowest point on the bike and that does the trick, too.
Or just ride around with your girlfriend or boyfriend and make them jump off and hit the crosswalk button!

Actually busanut1300, they passed that law several years ago, but yes, that was the reason. You can legally run a red light here in Tn after waiting a REASONABLE amount of time. There's no time period listed that you are required to wait. If it's clear, take off. Then again, you may need a piece of paper that shows the applicable TCA code to show the LEO that doesn't know about it.

In what I thought to be a well traveled 33 years this post is the first time I have ever heard of a red light that has a sensor to make it change to green when you approach it.

Thank U all for the helpful and some hilarious input. I will try the kickstand method first. If it works for me, then thats a dollars in my pocket.
