Trailers, I know, beat to death

Why not make a weekend out of it and go to Georgia for your trailer?
$2698 for that 6x15 v-nose....

And yes you can get two bikes in a 6x12 as mentioned above.

Question.

I trailer shop myself and always wondered what the advantage would be of a single axle versus dual axle. Payload? Handling?

If you can swing the tandem axle, it is a better trailer. Better payload capacity, less bouncing going down the road, and you will see better tracking behind the tow vehicle. But, I could not swing the 4k for a 7x14 and I wanted to get something that would meet my needs. The 6x12 looks like it will, but I still have to outfit the trailer for my set up. With that said, there are a great number of people who use the single axle trailers with no issues. Buy the biggest you can afford and you should be fine. Hope that helps.

Torsion axles are the best to get when buying a trailer. They handle the weight MUCH better and the contents of the trailer receive a much smoother ride. Having brakes on the axle is also a very big plus.

I've seen black and white checkered 12" square linoleum (sp?) used on the floor and it looks killer! Should make cleaning up a breeze too. I just got a 6 X 14 V nose last week and am contemplating doing that. Right now I have a PW80, CR250, Predator 90 quad and a 660 raptor with extended rear axles in it with room for the 10 X 10 Canopy, 6 chairs, Tent, cooler, tools, air compressor and small generator. SO, Your two bikes should fit easily and comfortably.

You will love the fold down door, I have the double door & have to use a ramp.
I have front wheel chocks mounted & always put the bikes on rear stands before strapping them down. I have never had one move on a rear stand.

A linoleum floor looks very cool, bike I had a friend drop his bike twice slipping on it, like glass when wet. I have always wanted to have spay on bedliner put on my floor.

Congratulations.

I dont have one yet, but plan to purchase one this summer. Honda has a real nice whisper quiet for around 1K. I will most likely just do 1 light and couple of recepts. I plan to have a place for my compressor, tool chest, and have a few places for gear, spare parts, etc.
One light?

You can never have enough light !

Omslaw says you can get a tan in my trailer!

You can get a tan in your trailer, if not a sunburn!

I never thought about putting the bike on the rear stand then straping her down. I was worried about the stress it may place on the spindle bolts. Cool deal, I may try that.

I would not recommend linolium, that stuff is evil. Especially if the potential for water is there, slick as ice. So, I went with the non-skid paint you can get a home depot, 21 bucks a gallon, any color you want, sand in the paint. Whatcha think?

I am going to get a trailer as well, and have a question... I see in the pic you have one of the Busa's on a rear stand and then tied down. Do you think that is more stable than just tying it down on it's tire ??  Looks like it might be more stable on the stand... Hmmmm  You got me thinkin' !!!!!

Good catch. My question is the weight of the bike and the force of the tie down is on the spindle bolt, do you trust that for long trips. I ask because I have thought about the same things. Front stand, rear stand, then tied down, it couldnt go anyhere.

Anyway, we did purchase a 6x12 this evening, but its too dark for pics, will take some tomorrow in the daylight. I am stoked, cant wait to outfit it now. My wife says I am spoiled, oh boy, wait till I get to painting the floor with non-skid and installing the lights, tie downs, chocks, etc!

I've had a lot of people question that particular tie- down setup~ With the front in the chocks and then the rear on the stands, the bike(s) don't shift, shake, or shimmy at all~ The wieght is not an issue.. it's no different then havin your bike on the stands in the garage~ The swingarm still flows freely and then there's the added spring support of the trailer itself~ I've also got them set to stradle the trailer axel evenly and just far enough in that once you close the ramp, even without a tie down holdin the wheel to the stand, the stand can't pop up~ It can't move forward in the chock... and it can't pop off the stand with the tie down in place~ I put both bikes in there like that and then climbed into the front of the trailer, from the side entrance, and rocked the heck out of the trailer enough to simulate a ride down a hillside... less a roll over~ Niether bike touched each other or the side walls of the trailer.... Solid~ We've takin it to the Busa Bash, from Florida to Robbinsville, NC like this twice now without incident~ Works great and makes for quick loading and unloading~

I'm loving the floor paint! I'm going to use your idea and merge it with mine. White painted floor first then checkerboard black on top. Not only will it look good but add safety with the added traction.

Good idea. Just a hint, found out tonight the painters tape does not stick to the non skid at all!

I finished the walls tonight, but I am tired, headed to bed. Cant wait to get the chocks and finish her up. I love a project.

Question, did you use anything like cauk to fill in the cracks between the sheets of plywood on the floor. What brand is the paint, and is it oil based?

No Hal, I did not caulk. The plywood joints were already flush to each other, didnt have a place for caulk. And the brand was American Tradition Non Skid, water base, not oil. I used the same paint on my 18' trailer, and it has lasted several years of abuse in the weather, so I didnt want to use the oil base. What are you thinking?

The walls are finished, painting is done. Now I just need to wait a couple of weeks to get some more funding for chocks. I have some ideas on how to mount the compressor. And I would like to build a small bench in the front. I will have to wait and get the chocks mounted so I know how much room in front of the bikes I will have. With most of the bikes being positioned in front of the axle, and then the added tools that I will put in front, she should track just fine.
