Two cops "busted" doing 147+

hearing some of you reminds me of talking to a 9 year old......

"well if he speeds, he should not have the right to give me a ticket"

there will be 100 or more law enforment officers die this year....for all the crap they deal with on a minute to minute basis, i can forgive them for speeding....

talk about hypocrisy, this an online forum for guys that purchased the "fastest" motorcycle ever made....it would silly to assume we all obey the speed limits all the time.

Depends on where you live. In VA 20+ over th elimit is wreckless driving.

Shouldn't police be held to a higher standard? Why or why not?

Not higher, just the same. Why? B/c they've been entrusted and empowered to enforce and uphold the law. With that power comes the added responsibility to wield it responsibly and in the best interest of the public which they serve. Unless they are breaking a law to in the pursuit of a greater good for the public, then they are providing a dis-service to those whom they serve.

I can certainly understand "speeding" and "making mistakes". But in this instance 147 mph isn't a "mistake" and is, IMHO, WAAAYYY beyond incidental speeding. Such an incident around here would result in automatic loss of license, impounded vehicle, massive fine and certain jail time. That ignores the fact that 147 mph on the street is imposing accident risk on any public folks that might be encountered.

Get pulled over and hold a CDL... CDL drivers are in fact held to a higher standard.. your typical $25 seat belt ticket? $300 for a guy driving his personal car and holding a CDL..

I got the ticket to prove it.. In fact it went against my driving record and doubled my insurance rates for 3 years.. was not even a moving violation.. it is just recorded as an "incident" without any explaination of what/why or where... sucked big time...

I hear ya. I got 2 awards, for 17 over each , within a 6 month period in my personal truck and having a CDL kept me from doing defensive driving.

Cha-Ching!!:banghead:

I have to put up with a ridiculous amount of crap at my job. No one is forced at gunpoint into any profession. Can't deal with it? Get another job. When you bend the law to accommodate some you create a "special" group of citizens and that's wrong.

I think reprimanding would be in order because it is your job to uphold the law, and if you are breaking that law then what other laws do you break and how can you enforce something that you yourself don't follow, I agree with the sort of double standard thing. For the held to a higher standard thing, YES!!!! When you become an officer you take an oath to o bay and uphold the law... so don't be a cop if you don't plan on sticking to the rules. and the fact that "Both men are facing minor misdemeanor speeding violations and not the more serious offenses of reckless operation or street racing," I would consider that a little better then average treatment from the fellow officer, more then doubling the speed limit and no reckless driving? well everyone has their own opinion.

+1000

I once had a job that stressed me out to all ends so I got another job. If your entrusted to enforce laws you should be held to a higher standard otherwise who are you to tell me I can't do it but you can.

AFTERHOURS.... so every Soldier, fireman, and just about every working individual who puts thier life at risk to bring this country to what it is should be exept to the speeding laws??? come on... and on that note I am done with this thread.

Geeeeeze, I can't stand it when some of you guys get on a cop hating kick. Listen, I am a cop. I don't use my badge to get out of anything. I do act stupid every once in a while. I never act stupid in busy traffic and only for short bursts. My bike usually only gets 5 over, maybe. Stop bashing cops for making mistakes. If they get caught, they loose could loose their job, career, and pay all of the fines along with it. Don't hate cops too much, you are going to need one in the furture, I Guarantee it.

Also, the higher standard bull**** needs to go. I dont know one officer who rides, that doesn't give breaks. If you get caught, you get it, oh well. Yes, 147 is too fast, but I bet the cop bashers on here have been 147. Ya'll are acting like they didn't get caught or aren't going to get any punishment.

I don't see anyone bashing LEO's anywhere in this thread. If questioning is bashing then I suggest you reexamine your premises. If I lose my license I also lose my job, my career and pay all of the fines too, so the same applies to me when I make a mistake. Get over it.

As for "need", I don't depend (nor do I need to) on government agents for my sovereignty, I can take care of myself fine, thank you very much.

It would have been the same. Speed alone does not constitute reckless driving. If youre caught going 30 or more over the speed limit, its a citation and a court date. Whats sad? Sure they are cops, cops goof off too and cops get caught. They are gonna get the same punishment as anyone else, acutally more because they will probably get reprimanded at work too, unlike to average citizen. Im so sick of people acting like cops arent human and dont screw up. They were speeding, they got caught, they pulled over. Give them their citations and let it be, if it were anyone else we wouldnt be reading about it.

I disagree. Maybe in that state but here in FL. You get caught doing 147 you going in and if it's a trooper and you are LEO you may still go in:rofl: and have to hear a lot :poke: too:rofl: LEO that get tickets down here would rather pay a fine an be done with it, they don't want to appear on the wrong side of the table in front of judge. Thats just from the LEO's that I know.

Every time a sport bikes get caught doing a high rate of speed they try an attack the entire sport bike community here. They do stings an put in the news or in the paper so I don't think it's making the news just cause they are LEO but I am sure that helped a lot:laugh: Hope it works out for them I can understand why they did it everyone wants to shift it into 4 gear at least once in a while:rofl:

Wow! That one Trooper who left a comment on the Newark Advocate sure sounded like he had a hard-on for Motorcycle Cops & Marines...

Maybe he always wanted to be both but couldn't:whistle:

Speeding, at least here in Fl, wheather it be 10 mph or 150 mph over the limit, is not criminal, it is a civil infraction. If caught on an interstate all alone going 147 where the speed limit is 70 will get you a speeding citation and court date, nothing more.

If you are weaving in and out of traffic, cutting people off, and acting like an idiot, then yes, you could take the ride for reckless driving.

As for being held to a higher standard....people are human and everyone screws up. At least we arent reading a story about 2 LEO's that ran and are now on life support because they wrecked.

I think I just need to put my 2 cents in some are saying don't hold them to higher standard well in that case why do they hold me to a higher standard because I hold a cdl not fair true but none the less done if I got caught at 147 on my bike lose license lose the job and no insurance company would touch me that's just my opion and I do like Leo

Were you forced to go into the law enforcement field? If the answer is no You have a job to do just like any other working man/woman in this country.. It is your job that you applied for and accepted, so if the call goes out you answer it and perform to the best of your ability, you and other leos that have the attitude that you are doing society a favor should reevaluate your choice of occupation. The reality is you are getting paid to do a job. Yes they screwed up, so have I and every other person on this board, whether they admit it or not. I'm not saying they should be crucified and burned at the stake, but they should not be treated any different than if they were not leos... Don't be so defensive and if you want to blame someone, blame the media that revealed that the two guys were leos. just my .02

By the way, maybe we can ride sometime I'm in Gastonia.

My interpretation of bashing is unfounded and mean spirited criticism, not observation and opinion.

For the record, I have had plenty of good experiences with cops (some bad ones as well). They've helped me out on more than one occassion and they've never wronged me more than by wasting my time. I'm glad they're out there b/c they're sorely needed. However, I do get frustrated when I see them take liberties with the law simply b/c they can as an occupational perk.

By your own definition you are bashing sir. While we would like to hold officers to a higher standard we can't legally.

Until they plead guilty or are found guilty in court they're innocent. Obviously to a reasonable person they broke the law.

Wreckless driving here is very hard to prove. I've read countless threads about high speed citations here, but I can't recall someone getting a wreckless driving citation for simply speeding. Here for example, they might have been charged wreckless if the section of road had traffic or they had a passenger aboard. Didn't see that in the article.

Seems to me that both were cited for doing the deed. What's not mentioned in the article is that they will both probably lose their jobs and quit possibly never be allowed to work in law enforcement again.

I'm just as guilty as any on this site. I'm not perfect.

If they weren't cops this would have probably never hit the news and we wouldn't be discussing it.

Your first post made me think they got away with it. I was somewhat confused as I read the article. All this being said without knowing the state laws in which they were cited.

147? not me, I have a kid to be around for so speeds like this are not the reason I bought mine.. I don't like cruisers, so this was the perfect bike for me and my son to cruise around on and have fun.

By the way, I don't see anywhere in this thread where anyone if bashing cops.
