Undertail Mods

I have been looking for something just like this

I just installed a high exit yosh system, so of course the stock turn signal had to go.  One question for you that have done this mod, did you use the stock mounting points for the flush signals?  Kinda looked like it from the pics but wasnt' sure.

Ok, more then one question

What did you use to trim the plastic?  And I'd love to get some info on how you have your radar detector mounted/connected too

zukracer,

No for the mounting question. The mounts are below the tail light, that's the part that I cut off.

I used an open ended hack saw to cut it off. You could also use a razor blade. After you cut it off, smooth it out with some fine sandpaper.

The radar is mounted directly to the windscreen. I used a LegalSpeeding radar mount. You had to drill three holes in the screen for the mount to attach to. Actually, don't drill, heat up an ice pick and pok it through the screen.

Automon,

I don't leave the detector on the bike, I take it off.

Additionally, the passport is wired directly to the headlight, so it comes on with the switch.

Hope this helps.

Zuk, I did the same mod and put Lockhart Phillips V flush mounts. They use double sided tape to attach and I put them on just like stealth did. You only have to drill a small hole in the side to run the wires through. Cutting off the fender is really easy but scary to do. Just mark what you want to cut off and cut 1/8 inch below that line in case the hacksaw goes askew. Then use a sanding block to sand up to the line. One thing I may have done different than Stealth is I left the stock license plate bracket but I drilled new holes in the middle of the license plate to move it up higher so I could remove more of the fender but wouldn't have to redrill holes to mount the license plate. There is a post on exactly how to do everything. Search for "$0 fender mod" and it should come up.

Have fun.

Actually I just double checked and I have exactly the same turn signals as Stealth has, he must have good taste as well:)

Thanks for the quick updates

I'm going to get the signals and copy you guys. Great idea, thanks for the detailed pics. I'll post some pics when I get done.

Thanks again
Brian

You may want to order the turn signals before you start cutting, not many dealerships have that style in stock. I had to order mine which took a week but they are only $15 which I thought was a great price. I need to take some pics of mine to post as well.

Hey Stealth,
No one has noticed your bar risor plate. Who makes it? Looks like an inch or 1 1/4 inch. Did those caps to cover the fork holes come with?
Thanx J.D.

cnjdawson,

The bar riser is a Gen Mar, 1.25 inch. Cut from a solid piece of Alum. Good quality. The caps did not come with the risers, I found those at a hardward store to clean up the bike.

Stealth.

so maybe I'm learning impaired but I couldn't find those lights on starcycle.com ....but I did find them at Newport Cycle Parts. Got several varieties for ~ $14

Also kinda interested in learning more about the bar riser you have there Stealth. Can you post a link on where to get them?

Thanks in advance,
Brian

I just ordered mine from my local dealer, didn't cost any more than getting them online. I am sure your dealer can get them for you.
