Why is anybody even talking about places to visit and things to go see and do. I don't konw about anybody else, but if I go somewhere I want to get out and RIDE. That's what was great about Colorado last year and that's why I voted for South Dakota. If I was looking for some tourist attractions, then I'd do that on a "family vacation" instead of a motorcycle gathering.

I would have voted for Colorado again for this year but that got ruled out, so that's why I voted for SD.

I agree with Justin on this one. i guess i have no clue what there is to offer in Eurekea Springs i've heard there is some but how much? i mean is there enough to go on diffrent routes for the 2 or 3 days that we will probly be there.

I still plan to go to the event no matter where it is as long as the dates are compatible with my farming schedule cause i'm always up for a ride I'm hopeing to get some decent riding in tis year these last couple of years have kinda sucked for me in that department

Ok,
Here is a picture from google earth with the roads marked around Eureka Springs. From one side of the picture to the other is about 90 minutes straight riding time. There are lots of very sharp twisties but most have very good roads. The second picture has some actual pictures of the byways.

What is the weather like in Eureka Springs (June, July), and is it very humid there? The pictures do look good. And what's with the name...is there some cool place to take a dip in some hot springs or anything like that?

Val,
The weather here can get humid, (not as bad as the southeast coast, I was stationed there for almost 10 years) but usually isn't that bad. Back up in the hills (Eureka Springs) there is always a light breeze, I live about 45 minutes cage time from Eureka. The hottest it got here last year was about 101 or 102, but that was late July early August.

As far as the springs, we have "Hot Springs" here in Arkansas, but that town is south of Little Rock. I am not really sure where Eureka Springs got its name.

VIDEO OF WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT MOTORCYCLING IN ARKANSAS

Working on a link for the black hills....

Both States have Highways listed as being in the Top Ten for motorcycles..
Spearfish Canyon (US 85) – The stretch from Spearfish to Lead is a favorite while touring the Black Hills in South Dakota.
Arkansas Highway 7 – Winding from Harrison to Jasper on through the Ozark National Forest, this route is a Southern delicacy.

South Dakota
Yes, the Black Hills are in South Dakota.  But, don't think that the rest of the state isn't worth a second look.

SD-87 through Custer State Park.  This is the famous Needles Highway, which was built only for the reason that it would be a scenic road.  You can be very certain that this road would not be built today, but you might as well take advantage of the fact that it's there, now.
US-14 from Cheyenne Crossing to Spearfish.  The Spearfish Canyon road follows Spearfish Creek and has some of the better paved curves in the Black Hills.
US-18 across the state.  Unless you're needing to be somewhere in a hurry, this is a much better choice than I-90.
SD-34 from Pierre to Sturgis.  I particularly like the drop down to the Cheyenne River as well as the section from the river to Sturgis.  Do not expect any fuel.
SD-65 through the Standing Rock and Cheyenne River Indian Reservations.  Amazing land.
Arkansas
As measured by miles of great roads per square mile, I think Arkansas has every other state beat.  I've only been through the upper left quadrant (and a little bit more in the other areas), but I don't think you can go too terribly wrong anywhere.  Even the low-lying back roads along the Mississippi are nice to ride.  One cautionary note, though: you should do your best to avoid the Rogers-to-Fayetteville corridor.  Except for their historic downtown sections, this is an ugly area, and you've never seen so many traffic lights to get through.  Unfortunately, there is no good way to avoid this if you're trying to get across the northwest corner.

AR-7 from Russellville north to the Missouri state line.  One of the great ones.
AR-16 from Fayetteville to AR-7.  This one crosses over the ridges.
US-62 from Rogers to Hardy.  This can get a little crowded during the peak season.  In fact, around the larger towns, it isn't any fun at all.
AR-23 from the Missouri state line down to I-40.  This road can be taken a little faster than some of the others in the area, but that only means it's full of nice high-speed sweepers.

man  this does  make people upset  talkin about how  what states are in the midwest
If you were referring to me, trust me, I aint the least bit upset, quite the contrary, hence the

... I was basically wondering what states were considered MidWest, was mostly surprised that it included states east of the Big River is all.

Its all gravy...

Hey Bug,
How long has it been since you've been here? With interstate 540 in place, you can get from Rogers to Fayetteville in about 12-15 minutes in a cage. If you go down Hwy 71 Business, I agree with you 110%.

I picked SD because I might actually get to make this one:)
I think it is about 7 hours from where I live.
what is the proposed date again?

Painless,

The date hasn't been decided yet, but I believe (someone correct me if I am wrong, I know you will) June/July time frame. After we decide where, then we are going to decide when.

Don

There are large lakes all over Arkansas and most are on routes preferred by motorcyclist. All are very clear and clean. Im not trying to talk anyone into any destination, but for me it has to be worth travelling for. "limited vacation time" . Iowa ,Kansas ,nebraska , are all out of the question for me. Been there, done that. Arkansas is the best roads you will find this side of the rockies. i would do Colorado again if trip is earlier than last year. Should be in late june or july to maximize chances of good weather..

Where exactly in SD are folks recommending?

LOL, not giving up the fight, just looking for distance in case it goes down there.

The Black hills area which is out By Rapid City

Or ya can punch in Custer, Hot springs, Spearfish, Hills city

Punch some of them cities in for your map navigation. Rapid city could be used as a base city granted there are some Great Camping Locations in the Hills that Offer Cabins for those that don't wana pop a tent and they will be alot closer to the nice roads rather then riding outta Rapid all the time

Well i hear ya guys on the camping part but alotta the Campsites have these nice little cabins that you can stay in and there as good or better then a motel room so then that way we could centralize where everyone stays it would make the evening entertainment alot easier to do
