This really sucks and regardless how you feel about your job, it always comes as a shock.
Outsourcing is the equivalent of Sweatshops, especially off-shore outsourcing. And it always costs more than the "business plan" says it'll be. Personally, I think it's time the government got involved. Wanna help the economy? Keep jobs in the US.
I feel that I work for one of the few corporations out there that still has a soul. Yes, we've had lay-offs, but our CEO and executive leadership notified each employee themselves. They didn't schlep it off to middle management. They took responsiblity for the decision. But we're in the casual dining business and the people who used to eat at our restaurants have traded down to McDonald's and Wendy's. When the economy's slow, our business takes a beating.
On the other hand, I've received the most incredible support this year while dealing with serious health issues. Our CEO and EVP have both called me personally to see how I'm doing and to make sure my family and I have what we need. Yes, I know I'm not indispensible, but I'll stick it out here for as long as they'll have me.
I just wanted to let you know that there still are good, ethical and caring corporations around. I hope you find a better place.
