went down today

I have been down before, but only from other peoples bad judgement or my own, never from a part failure

not your fault they are cheap and dont do their homework they should be boycotted completely unless they straighten it out and contact everyone who has bought those for a warning on what can happen. imagine if you were say doing 65 in traffic???

Whoa :( I have had a pair snap on me, lousy feeling I was able to get stopped with just grinding away the rear fender.

Thats weird yours buckled and the back end went up, when mine went the rear went all the way down onto the tire. Or are you holding the back end up with something???

uh...nooo....with links the longer they are, the lower the bike sits....the shorter they are, the higher the bike sits....so when they fold...they are real short thus back-end in the air.

so what steps/recommendations on exactly how to handle this? luckily didn't happen at 60+ mph, but it fit had....wouldn't be here to even type this probably. scary.

whhoops you are right I guess you would have been better off with them snapping instead of bending.

They need to notified ASAP and have them removed from their website before someone does die or they are sued into oblivion.
That's ridiculous

I have a friend that had something similar to him but his broke in half not bent. His was slamed to the ground went the links broke.

Get a lawyer and have him send them a nice letter with pics.
That's def a product liability issue for sure and they should reimburse you for everything , 100%

Sorry about your luck but glad your ok to post about it .

I believe the stockers are steel. Those links probably should not be made out of any type of aluminum IMO. Or if so they should be a lot thicker to compensate. Suckage, glad you're ok...if not this would be a lawsuit waiting to happen, or still could be...

Rereading your description of what happened again, have you checked the rear shock? This is kind if far out there but is it possible that the spring detached from the shock itself and this is what caused you to spring up. You said it happened when you let off of the throttle which in turn would unload the rear spring, sending you airborne.

In your damage report....you didnt mention the tail. It is all jacked up as well.

Glad you are ok. Get some Soupy adjustables when you get it back going again.

+1 on getting a set from Soupy, they are the best i've seen! i've had mine on for almost 40,000 miles without a single issue :beerchug:

I went through a similar deal with a yana shinky (or whatever the name is) top clamp. I went to lean into a turn hard, the clamp deformed and the hardware holding the left clipon pulled through the clamp. I went down at 70mph or so. Not good and YS just turned their nose up.

I feel Spencer will be better to work with, just keep in mind all parts are sold as "off-road" and "race only." That does remove certain liabilities from the manufacturer and seller.

I may be completely wrong, but could your failure stem from the extreme stretch? If your swing arm acts like a lever, it would add to the pressure on those parts exponentially as you increase the swing arm length. Just a thought.

update, seems i might have jumped the gun on the links being what failed! So i try to own up to when im wrong, and my sincere apologies go out to spencer cycle.com!!!!! upon tear down of the bike i pulled the shock loose and look what i found! i dont know what caused this, and could not tail until it was unbolted there was even anything wrong! it was not rubbing on swingarm or anywhere else. Any ideas?

I don't know much about this, but the more you stretch the arm the more strain you put on components designed for stock length. If I was to stretch, I would want to upgrade everything. Skin is even more expensive the bike repair.
