  • I have such a good feel for the bike, I wouldn't want a gear indicator, even for free.

I did'nt vote because I have a gear indicator,,,, don;t look at it much, but I like it! Strom only shows OD, Busa clicks them all, its the top that is improtant, I've tried to get "one more" on every bike I ever ran. Not something a guy NEEDS though.

Just finished installing it on my bike and took a short spin. Very nice to be able to look down and see what gear you're in. I have enough to pay attention to when riding with all the idiots on the road talking on their phones or worse yet, texting. Got the blue display which is very nice. As an added bonus, the ATRE really does smooth out the lower gears.

By now I can feel what gear I'm in. And if there is a question, a quick glance at the speedo vs. tacho readings tells me.
But.. if it were free, I'm always open to another pretty light on the dash.

Before I got mine I did find myself looking for a 7th gear and at times when really jumping on her realized I was in 5th instead of 6th.

Got one Problem solved.

Just a quick update. Took the bike for a longer ride this morning since installing the GIPRO yesterday and it has really changed the way it rides in the lower gears. I put on 2 Brothers Titanium shorties a few weeks ago and the bike got very jerky in 1st and 2nd especially. Seemed to have a hesitation at low rpms. Thought I was going to need a pclll. Read about the GIPRO with ATRE smoothing out the bike in lower gears and thought I would give it a try. Big difference and I got the gear indicator as an added bonus plus it saved me a good $100-120 just on not having to buy the pclll not to mention what tuning would cost.

As I seldom ride the highway I can't remember the last time I even used 6th gear. 3rd 4th 5th mostly on the back roads. But the indicator is nice on the Gen II

I can't even look at the speedo most of the time. That would be just another dash indicator I would ignore.

I didnt vote because you dont have an option for my opinion. I dont use it when riding in the twisties, I rely on the engine speed and feel of the bike. I use it when just tooling around town.

i am just the opposite...i go by feel and sound when just cruising around but ride the twisties by the speed i want to be at and amount of engine braking or acceleration i need when i release the clutch lever...i rarely use my brakes in the twisties and need to know exactly what gear i am in at all times (may pull the clutch and shift down two and sometimes three gears before releasing)...if it isn't right, life can get really interesting

I wouldn't say I need it, but I like having it. Display features are very inexpensive to engineer and fab, I don't see why bikes in general don't have more features like instant/total mpg, range, lateral G's, sophistocated menus for other things like engine modes...whatever.

Only my last two bikes had gear indicators. Before that, rode just fine without them. A luxury item that can be helpful but hardly a necessity.
