So what the hell is going on in egypt? Apparrantly something huge. The government shut off all internet access in the country to stop protestors. Sitting here at the toyota dealership getting an oil change for my warranty and its all over whatever news channel this is.

Oh and we are spending billions in aid to help them... yay... more debt. Thanks hussein obama.

why? why do we send money everywhere? we're funneling the money we've borrowed from china all over the damn world, and no one ever pays US back.

My wife and I went to Egypt last spring. Looks like we picked the right time to go! It does not look like it will be a great vacation spot for a little while now.

You have given the military dictatorship in Egypt 28 billion in aid which goes mostly to American weapons not humanitarian aid, because that proved valuable in preventing the soviets from having influence in Egypt.

It's all good... it's not like any of the weapons or combat training we provide would ever be used against us, right? right?!

The USA has been supporting Egypt for decades. Sadat was assassinated because the USA brokered a peace plan between Egypt and Israel. Egypt and it's president at the time Anwar Sadat were the first Arab nation to 'recognize' Israel and accept it's right to exist. Sadat shook the hand of the Israeli president and made peace with Israel. As a result extremists killed him. During a military parade a small group of soldiers left ranks , rushed the presidential seating area and killed Sadat and several others.

What's going on now is the populace has had enough censorship and restrictions on their lives. The Egyptian govt will by extreme brutal force regain control. It is why they have cut off all forms of communication. The Egyptian govt does not want the world to see what's coming next.

Ahhh, Thank you sir for the quick education on that

Yeah sounds like things are going to get real bad over there

Sent to me from the US....

"One would figure $1.8 billion annually would buy us a little more comfort
from Egypt then what were getting. I guess we have to be a little more
picky on who we pay off to be our friend"

The US is in a bad position here and has to tread lightly.

- Egypt controls the Suez
- Egypt was the only country that came to terms with Isreal (and cost the leader his life)

The US needs a friendly ally in the region other than Israel, and free access to the Suez is of strategic importance. Just think of what would happen if a radical muslim government like Iran gets control of Egypt....The US would go to war over the Suez.

your exactly right if the suez is cut off again it could get really ugly for all.

Once again find myself watching the news. Looks like chaos over there. People just running the streets with some throwing molotovs... just craziness...
