What To Wear This Summer

I'm sure I'll get flack on this, but I do not wear leather in the summer, I find it too warm.  I do however, always wear my Joe Rocket jacket (around $225), with integrated back, shoulder and elbow protection.  I find it cooler than leather but still feel protected.

I also always ware my full face helmet, boots and at a minimum, jeans.
+1

Joe Rocket mesh with armour, heavy jeans, leather "hiking" boots (laces tucked in), leather armoured gloves and full face.

Although some Harley attitude crap has worn off on me, and for short rides, I don't use the jacket. I know I know.. it can happen anytime.

You and your wife both need to come to the bash! You and her both will make some lifelong friends I assure you. Mc Mustangs wife will not be riding, and I'm sure there are others she can have a good time with while you go for some rides. The fellowship at night around the fire is something she will enjoy and you guys will start making plans to come back before the bash is over. Here is a pic of MC Mustang and his wife. Nothing scary about this bunch of "bikers", just some great people who you will enjoy spending time with.
Dear Hal & Friends

Well, we can't go to the Bash this year. Becky gave me the go-ahead and I made reservations at the Microtel, but upon checking my calendar, I see that I've already committed to photographing my cousin and her boyfriend for their senior prom on the 26th. I made this commitment about a month ago. I can't bail on them because I was supposed to do shoot cousin's senior pictures and that didn't work out.

Would it be worth riding up there on Sunday morning? We live about 130 miles from Deal's Gap. We could ride up on Saturday night, but I hate riding in the dark. I don't mind riding in a car at night, but riding a bike at night is a little scary to me.

I hate to miss out on this experience. I've asked Becky to come up with a win-win solution to this problem. She's extremely resourceful, but she says she's unable to figure out how we can be up there for the whole Bash.

Crap! I was all excited about going. I ordered the jacket your son suggested, some Maxima Chain Wax, and a CrampBuster at New Enough. I guess I need that stuff regardless of Busa Bash, but the Bash made those discretionary purchases seem all the more legitimate.

I'm pissed off at the moment.

I'm sorry man. Can you do the senior pics soon as you get back or before you leave? I'm sure you've thought of that but I had to throw it out there. I've never been either so I'm in your boat also. I know both of us will be going home with many stories to talk about for years to come. It would be great if your wife could meet and become friends with us also, I know she'll love us

A single plain backdrop, couple umbrellas and we could set up a corner of the parking lot real quick.. Some studio quality shots of some of these machines would be really nice... not much in the way of "good" backdrop around the hotel where good shots could be staged..  heck for that matter if you have a  Chroma Key Green we could have some real fun...

Bring the wife, kids, dog and the neighbors

not knowing anyone there is the last excuse that will fly as NO ONE knows anyone the first trip, and by the time you leave? you will have gained more new friends than you will see in a lifetime...
Dear Randy

If we get to come up there, we'll bring the gear you suggested. We have a charcoal-colored backdrop with some mottling in it that we could bring. An image with this background is attached to this message. We'd still need access to electricity for the strobes. We don't have any battery packs.

We can't come for the whole Bash because I have to shoot my cousin and her boyfriend late in the afternoon on the 26th.

Damn! Damn! Damn!

I got all psyched up before realizing I had a prior commitment.

Maybe we could ride up on Sunday. I just don't know. My anger is getting in the way of figuring out how to manage this situation.

Dear Randy

I said we can't come up on Saturday, at least during the day, because we have a prior commitment. I don't know whether to forget the 'Busa and drive up Saturday night, or whether I'm tough enough to ride the 'Busa up there on Sunday morning and still ride with y'all, or some other partial solution.

I just don't know. I just don't know.

Dear Chris

I wish it were senior pictures. Those are easy to reschedule, at least most of the time. My prior commitment is to shoot prom pictures. My cousin will have had her hair done, be wearing a nice dress, and have had someone to do her makeup. Her boyfriend will be in a tuxedo. This I can't reschedule.

I think a lot of guys hit the road Sunday for home... Figure out your schedule and just go from there... Of course it would be great if you could make it up but there is always Fall bash or even next years spring bash..

Dear Randy

If she weren't a blood relative who lives less than a mile from me, I'd bail out on her.

But, alas, that is not the situation.

Where's the Fall Bash? I could go ahead and put that on the calendar so that would be my prior commitment!

Jaddie, here is a way for it to work. Come up on your busa on Thursday during the day, with your wife following you. Do a couple of the rides Thursday and Friday, and spend some time getting to know everyone at the cookout in the evening. Offset your expenses taking photos of members bikes in the afternoon and evening, (also give you a way to charge off expenses for business travel). Go to the photo shoot at the dam with ALL the members Saturday morning, then head home in the car for your photo shoot and come back after you finish if you want to be there for Sat. night, or follow your wife home on the busa and stay at home after the shoot. I travel 2,000 miles round trip for this event and it is worth every mile I drive. Because of the drive we leave after a short ride on Sunday AM as do most of the members. What ya think about them apples?

Dear Hal

I'm thinking about "them apples."

My wife is positive about it, but she wants to see if she can get a substitute teacher for Friday, April 25. Without my wife's coming, I won't have any photo gear with me. But she probably can find a sub.

Rides on Thursday? I thought the Bash didn't begin until Friday.

I might ride up by myself early Thursday and let Becky drive up Thursday night. The background stand, backdrop, clamps, lighting equipment, camera, and lenses would be in her car.

This sounds good to me, but give me until late Monday afternoon to give you a definite answer.

We'd be coming home mid-day Saturday for the late-afternoon prom shoot.

I'm getting more excited as I think about this. I appreciate your suggestion. It's a damned good one!

I bet Becky can find a sub!

Are you going to be there Thursday?

--Jaddie

We will be there early evening on Wed. I tried to catch you before you ordered the jacket. I have a XXL and it fits perfect. Yours may be a touch big. Lookin' foreward to meeeting you guys.

As my son GSXTacy said, we arrive on Wednesday afternoon. Please don't feel pressured into giving me an answer, we would all like to have you join us if you can. We know if you come, you will want to make it every year. Heck, if you ride your bike back Sat. afternoon, some of us may just ride down that way with you to explore some new roads. What route would you take ?

Dear Chris & Hal

Thanks for the heads-up on the jacket size, Chris. I phoned New Enough and changed my jacket size.

I feel better than ninety-percent certain that we're going to make it, at least until mid-day Saturday. I've gone ahead and made new reservations at the Microtel.

Keep in mind that my dark gray backdrop (pictured earlier in this thread) measures 10'x10', so there's room for only one bike and person at a time unless we turn a couple of bikes toward the camera.

If we need a larger background, go over to amvona.com and pick out a muslin. I'll pay for it.

If we go to the trouble of setting up a background and lights (we need electricity), everyone should try to participate so that we have a professional-quality gallery to commemorate the event. The big group shoot cannot be done with my relatively small backgrounds. Someone might help me birddog a scenic location for a big group shoot.

I have five paper backgrounds, all nine feet wide and forty feet long. I have white, black, off-white, medium green, and light gray. Paper backgrounds won't work worth a flip outside if there's the least bit of wind.

I have two other muslins. My favorite one, shown in many of the images in my portfolio, measures 10'x16', but it suggests portraiture and might not work as well for sportbikes and riders as the dark gray. I also have a green muslin (whose green value would be somewhere between medium and light green; it's light green but not too light).
