Just returned from my first ride with a 17/42. Its fantastic ! A lot more zip and not buzzy at highway speeds. I am surprised at the difference in acceleration with such a small change in gearing.
I run 16/42 with a yosh full system/pc/filter and its great on the highway. I'm averaging mid 30's mileage wise with a mix of hot rodding and cruising. And at reasonable cruising speeds I have no vibe probs. I wouldn't do 16/43 though.........the 42 rear is as far as I'll go for highway use And you will definately need a speedohealerI have a 03 busa looking for the right gears. Can u ride long trip with 16/43 and then when it time to get down it there.
let me know if you guys need sprockets.
16/42 will rocket me up to an honest 180 at the de-restricted rev limiter in 6th so fast its shocking. You will lose a little off the top but only a few mph hour, considering stock geared busa's only do mid 180's anyway. And the 16/42 gearing is so much faster up to 180 than stock gearing, that unless you you have miles of top speed road to race on its really a moot point. I almost never go up to a true 180 on the street. The stock gearing took away power where you needed it by giving you 202 mph gearing on a bike that would only pull mid 180's anyway. I would recommend 16/41 tho for a better compromise of highway and accelerationI thought that with all the different combinations, there are pros and cons. Being that you will have different responses.
16/42 will give you good 1/8, but nothing after.
16/45 will run out before you hit sixth gear.
17/40 stock, will allow me to run on top end. Where the busa are known.
More props for you all with -1's and +2,3,4. i like top end.
