Well, talked to Chris over at Helimot today. Great group of people over there, and really took the time to sell me the right glove.
I had plans to get the H-20 glove.
-Traced my hand out
-Faxed my stuff to Helimot
-Called and confirmed they got my info
-Then, this is where they proved to me they were there to serve me and not just make a quick dollar. Chris asked me what type of riding I do & I explained to him my style of riding & that I ride 10 to 15 thousand miles a year. Chris said the H-20's are a great glove, but more suited to dedicated racing.
Well, Thats perfect, Im racing all the time, or atleast my ego wants to believe that, so the H-20's must be right for me...right? Well, ok reality sunk in to my thick head, and I really thought about it after getting off the phone with Chris.
I called Chris back and said...hmmm, maybe the Buffalo 365's might be better for me...give me more info. Well Chris didn't rush me & spen about 30 minutes telling me about the features of the 365. First off the 365 has a nice leather windshield wiper on the finger of the left glove...hmm...nice feature, especially with all the riding in the rain I've been doing...but is this feature enough to dispell my belief that Im "Joe Racer" and need the H-20's?
Ok, well Chris continues with further info about the 365. Explaining that the 365 is better suited for various temps...well Heck Im in Minnesota...it's always 72F and sunny...right? Ok, so the last 1500 miles I've ridden has been in the low 50's with temps dipping into the high 30's....hmm....maybe the H-20 might be a little cold for me with the whole palm area being Roo skin.
Chris further explains that the 365 is Deerskin and naturally repells water, not water proof, but better suited than Roo skin for riding in the rain. Further features are 3 layers of faom in the knuckle area, full gauntlet design (Hey I can actually put my jacket inside of the glove, as it seems like more and more glove makers are making the gauntlet so tight, you cant put anything inside the glove...whats up with that?), year warranty, and several other neat features.
Ok, so I asked myself...do I need a full on race glove...hmm....I ride all those miles, lots of trips, various weather conditions, and dont like to have to pack several pairs of glove...Sounds more like I should be on a BMW, but lets face it Im on a Busa, and it tours, commutes, and goes real fast when I want it to...Im not doing 10 to 15 track days a year in hot weather. Now Chris did say a lot of Cali guys do use the 365 as a track glove , and have reported Excellent results.
So why the heck am I looking at the H-20's? Well they look super cool, but the more that I looked at what I needed a glove to do, and I really thought hard about this considring the $170 price of the 365's - H-20's are $199.00 - I begun to think forget about looks...I need a glove to perform for me, and all of the time, not just some of the time, or just get something because it looks a little neater. Chris agreed the H-20 is slick looking, not much different than the 365, but non the less a little different. He said he's been wearing his 365's for over 2 years, and will try the H-20's next, but he is still using what he served him so well.
So I did it, I confirmed my order for a set of 365's and feel pretty darn good that this company took the time to talk to me about my needs, and not just sell me something more expensive, and less practical. Anyhow, I thought I would give my input, and when I get them next week I will post pics, and do a little review on them after I have tried them for awhile. Oh, almost forgot to mention this....If I dont like them, just send them back. They will make alterations to the glove for free, or upgrade me to the H-20's if the 365's just don't do it for me....now that is customer service. So far so good for this company, and very excited to try out my new 365's when they get here.
