I watched one of those nature shows where they talked about how forest fires actually made the forests better. Something about how the fire kills off pests and burning off old diseased trees provides sunlight for new growth...it was an interesting show. The scientists kept an area under complete fire control and the forest looked awful whereas the controlled burn areas were lush and green.Got up to 7,852’ today crossing the Tamarack Ridge near China Peak above Huntington Lake and Shaver Lake for a nice 162 miles round trip. Managed 46 mpg. Shaver lake was really low. The dirt you see was completely covered the last time I saw it. Huntington lake had ice covering it. Beautiful day but 48 degrees up high. Like riding inside a refrigerator but with a view. Suppose flying these jets in a straight line, regardless of their speed, is…boring? Saw a few bikes including two novice Sportster riders with their legs splayed wide. I rode as far as possible on the north side of the lake until I hit ice so I turned around. The burn areas were awful, just thousands of dead trees sticking up out of the snow.View attachment 1647157View attachment 1647158View attachment 1647159View attachment 1647160View attachment 1647161View attachment 1647162View attachment 1647163View attachment 1647164View attachment 1647165View attachment 1647166View attachment 1647167View attachment 1647168View attachment 1647169View attachment 1647170View attachment 1647171View attachment 1647172View attachment 1647173View attachment 1647174View attachment 1647175View attachment 1647176View attachment 1647177
Part of that show was the reintroduction of wolves and showing how the elk herds actually rebounded and were stronger with an apex predator being reintroduced....before the elk were grazing off and killing off plants, the wolves kept them moving and killed off the weak.
