Who Rode Today?

I got about 60 miles in today. Over 80 degrees. I stopped by Suzuki to grab an oil filter.

Went for a short "big rain clouds forming" ride today and oddly enough I ran across the same young fella on the HD I ran into the other day at the same gas station.

He had a great big smile on his face when I saw him...
He said "guess what my dad told me? He was riding on the hiway with my uncle and they decided to have some fun with a yellow sport bike by passing him at full throttle... They said this yellow bike caught up and went by them very, very fast and disappeared into the distance all while they were still at full throttle...."

He said "that wasn't you was it?"
I said "might have been"
He said " I have to get myself a sport bike because that sure shut them up"

He said his uncle and dad have a whole pile of money into their bikes and within their circle of riders, their bikes are considered to be the fastest...

I told him fast is a relative thing...my bike is fast compared to their bikes and slow to some other bikes out there...

I told him normally I would have never went by those other bikes so fast but because they pissed me off, the got the full Hayabusa dusting off.

Excellent!! A true Suzuki rider lmao!

Here I actually erased this before posting: ",relatively boring inline-4 aside..."

That said, you think like my mechanic who provided the attached.

I actually didn't mind Hondas until I had to wrench on them for three years at a dealership... learned quickly that Honda engineers absolutely hate the mechanics who have to work on them. I would never own one now having experienced that pain.

The simplicity and cross-pollination of common parts on Suzukis make them a mechanic's dream. And Kawasaki isn't far off either. :beerchug:

Yesterday I had my first Hayabusa ride. Note that a couple of weeks ago was the very first season ride on the VFR. At the time I thought that I would take the super-ultralightweight racing bike out first, being completely out of riding shape and all. (Ergo do not challenge myself around the slow city with Big Berthazuki) However when it came time to see that the Hayabusa would start right up without a burp post-winter, the ride felt comfortable, like no time had passed. My winter activity was a lot more robust than prior years. The sheer imbalance I many times feel on the first rides was not there. It was a typical hour ride, mostly city with moderate traffic, connecting areas via freeways. I rarely stop so I do not have any pictures. Too bad as there was not a cloud in the sky and it was in the 50's.

Due to the VFR I am changing my thought process regarding an exhaust for the Hayabusa. The VFR being older, currently with a racing muffler, and the cam gear whine is excessively loud. Even the molded earplugs and a Shoei GT Air (although I tend to open the face) do not subdue it enough. Then riding the Hayabusa with the stock monsters (what do you smarter guys call the part description from the OEM microfiche, "Potato Launcher L/R"?) I feel a bit of sound relief and think that relatively speaking, "oh this is better!". I have no worry of disturbing the citizens either. Though the mechanic will continue to push for a single-side to ease the maintenance. Hrm.
+1 single side maint!

Wow:banana:
That's all I can say
740 mi Fri & Sat, all of it breathtaking.
WHY I RIDE
and why I ride a Suzuki Hayabusa: zero mechanical issues and extremely comfortable, considering there's no good reason to downshift while overtaking
Why I use $15/qt oil. Is that too much? Is it, really? I'll never be convinced anything is too much for this amazing bike.

Onyx, CA, via Hwy 178. Props to @pashnit and his invaluable website.
On a midday Friday (and Covid) there was little westbound traffic on this amazing highway that goes from lazy two-lane country road to MotoGP-ish four-lane race track before returning to a classic two-lane - solid walls of rock on the left and butterfly-inducing sheer 50+ ft drops to the rock-strewn Kern River on the right. Guardrails?? We don't need no stinkin' guardrails! Better than a morning in church, in some respects.

This store just after the country road part, just before the 'race track' section:

More props to Pashnit. Highway 58 should be on everyone's touring list

Attempted Hwy 166, (E of Santa Maria, CA) but this:

Pretty sure that was a bike on the flatbed. Force-stop was at least 10 mins before I turned around, found something else ...

This run, by the way, was revenge: @Sandow promised me Vegas debauchery. Canceled. Covid. This run - without Sandow - not as much fun but way more scenic.

Another unashamed Pashnit plug: If you're considering a CA tour, his website is mandatory for preview & planning (road conditions, etc) at the very least. One of his tour packs better. It's on my list!
