Why a Hayabusa?

It all depends on what you use your bike for... If I still lived in Virginia with all the curvy backroads I would have kept my zx10. Down here in Florida a Busa or Zx12/14 makes more sense. They are more comfortable and more stable and they also hold thier value, more so with the hayabusa on the value.

As far as why a Busa I got mine for the reasons above plus I never had one and always wondered what they were like. There is something about the bike that's greater than the sum of its parts. Sometimes I miss my zx10 and I am tempted by the 08, but I know it's a move that I would get tired of after I was on I95 for more than 20 minutes.

busa is very comfy for long rides man. also for passenger, especially when you get custom seats, the ride is just... amazing.

you have power, you have comfort, you have the looks... you're all set...

if you want track, go for the lighter bikes.

My recommendation: try sitting on one, get the feel and make your choice... just note this: busa is one heavy beast with lots of power. if you don't have the confidence to ride it, then dont even go there...

Power, comfort, looks, etc. I've only had mine a little over 9 months and I've done close to 15 hour rides and at the end of the ride, it's like I didn't ride at all. It's that comfortable. 800 plus miles or more a day is a walk in the park. That explains why I have almost 23,000 miles on mine in 9 months and 7 days to be exact. Nuff said.

The best part... The ORG and the people in it!!

You will not find a better group of people!!!

i just came back from the angeles crest highway. our group included R1, GSXR1K, CBR1K, and couple of GSXR750s. at the end of 27 miles of cool twistie, i came last, probably couple of miles behind. i always come last with this group, and i will ALWAYS come last with these riders and their bikes. it's even not-really smart trying to change that predictament. so......there. however, at the end of couple of runs. i wanted to go back for more. they couldn't. i can do twisties all day with my busa. none of those liter bikes can. ever since i sat on mine for the first time, i just knew it.

Duel purpose, Mid life thing and I needed something to match my extra large tool

My reasons:
I like to drag race, nothing serious, just the $10 run what you brung Friday night local drags.  The bike is fast enough without going air shifter, NOS, etc etc.  Long wheelbase and heavy make for stable fun at the strip.

I like to do trackdays, I can drag a knee, run up to 150+mph, hit the brakes, turn, accelerate and the Busa keeps a very big smile on my face the entire day at the track.  And the bike is very stable, not twitchy like the trackbikes with radical geometry.

I like to take some road trips.  The gas tank is large enough to reach the gas stations that are spread apart out here in the Desert.  And the ride is very stable on the highway. Smooth 4 cylinder engine so the vibrations don't kill me like they do on my 1700cc Road Star Warrior with a 120 mile range between fill ups.

The bike has a very good history of frame, engine, electronics, etc etc.  Maybe a second gear issue to some guys but that is about all, no serious recalls and some models have no recalls.

Cars don't pull up beside me and try to race me (but I am all the more ready to), everybody knows the Busa will go.  So I can relax and ride.  Its is bigger than a 600cc sportbike so it is easier to be seen on the road.  I have a Brocks Alien Head so cagers can hear me, so I have made my bike a little safer on the city traffic.  And I personally like the styling.

Just some reasons why I have a Busa....

I put 300 miles a week on my bike just to and from work. Try doin that on a liter bike. You'll want to die. It's a comfort thing. Plus, I've always wanted one, they're sexy, and they've got a torque curve like you wouldn't believe.

It just has a fell like no other bike. Powerband and comfort. I have a friend who rode nothing but liter bikes. Always mocked the Busa (I know can you imagine). Mocked me for the first 700mi(break-in) I owned mine. Then I let him take it for a test ride. Well long story short He is the proud owner of a Busa now with no regrets.

My Busa might(?) be slower then the new liter bikes, But most of those people who own one have never experience the total experience of a "Hayabusa". At the end of a ride they can kiss my ars and it wont even hurt cause it came off a nice comfy Busa!

Being your tall a bandit 1200 (any year) is a good reliable bike to learn on. Good resale also due to the rep they have. Respected also for the engine size, but not intimating.

Uhhhhh....errrr....ummmmmm........what was the question

Comfort for sure! It is by far the best bike I have ever ridden, hands down!

Akumu,Most of these posts talk about comfort. Being as big as you are try the ZX-14. Much more comfort and a little bit lighter. These guys are gona choke but I have two busas and a new 08 14 and I will take the 14 for comfort. The new 08 busa beats the 08 14 by a moustache hair and the 14 is faster than a gen-1 busa. Common back..THHE

Been riding a CBR 1100XX for about 4yrs and was wanting another big bore sport tourer, heavy on the sport. Honda has went kinda of dormant, and I like the XX enough, I did consider buying another one and have a pair. But it was time to jump ship, and try something different. Only two choices in this category IMO- Busa or ZX14.

Ended up finding a clean silver 02 Busa on Ebay about 6 months ago, and had to have it. I have put about 3k miles on it, and it no doubt has a performance edge over the XX-tons of torque. Once I had Smithers do a custom map, its a blast to ride! The XX has it beat on long rides, because it is glass smooth and has better wind protection.

Now with the silver 08 ZX14, I'm hoping to pick up a used one in the next year or two, and still have about the same money in these 3 fast bikes, as you would in one new Harley or Goldwing.

I consider it a privledge to be able to buy and ride such high performance motorcycles and hope big brother doesn't mess things up.

Since the Zx14 is being thread jacked into the topic...

IMO the difference between the Busa and the Zx14 really boils down to appearance preference. 14 is more rigid in looks. Busa has more curves. I don't care for the 14 looks. Might be a little bit nicer on my bottom in the long run,but really how much? Not enough to justify my sacrificing my visual taste.

Anybody have the link to the Discovery Channel program "Top 10 motorcycles"?

I think if Akumu could see the Busa film clip it would shed some light on the current topic.

They say there are only two types of people; those who own a hayabusa and everyone else (and they all wish they did).
I've been riding for 40 years. Had all types of bikes, (about 30 or so)
I'm really stuck on Suzuki for design, speed, power, handling and sexy.
Busa at the top of those lists.
Mid life crisis is about feeling young, and believe me, these things will do it.
If you want to accessorize and modify a bike this one is the top.
Go to ebay and do a search for any other bike and see that a search for "Hayabusa"￾ will bring thousands more options for add ons, and customization.

Only people who have owned one can know what it is like.
All the rest just missed it.

Good luck!

I got rid of my 03 Goldwing for an 06 Busa, and have never regretted it. I do a lot of sport touring, and do not thing anything else would do what I like to do better than the Busa. My friends and I have ridden from Illinois to Deals Gap, and it is no big deal. We make a 3-day trip out of it though so we can ride all day on day two.
