We forgot how to fight a war. The last time we did it right,.. WW2. Part time war, drawn out over many years does not work. The American people want it over in 30 days. They quickly lose interest. Unfortunately, there is no easy way out, none of us is qualified to make an informed decision about the matter. We do not have access to all the intelligence. And is it accurate?
When you get right down to it... in reality.... we are there from now on. The region is in chaos, always has been, always will. Nuke it or plan on being there a long time. Russia spent 11 years in Afghanistan, nothing changed for them. To semi quote Jesse Ventura.. Predator movie.... "Dug in like an Alabama Tick"

I think it's a bit more complicated than just the one cause.
However, it is vitally important that the Western world ensure that OPEC cannot hold us hostage with oil prices. (Again.)

That's a damn good question! I've been there twice and the purpose never crossed my mind. It did'nt really matter in our level our opinions dont make a difference.

See how just a "little" trouble in the Middle East pushes gas prices. :banghead:

Imagine the world impact if there was "big" trouble in the Arab world.

We are there to keep stability in the middle east, an oxymoron since they have been fighting there since the begining of recorded history, all about the oil, hmmm its not working is it? Hey lets fight another war in north africa and really bring the us to its knees now, oil has a strangle hold on every developed country on this planet and on me and you too.

Oil. Period. It's a strategic necessity for the US economy. IF there was no oil there, and if they didn't come over here and fly airliners into skyscrapers, we'd let them kill each other to their heart's content.

It's also why Africa has so far not been shown the same concern or gotten much attention.

i sorta agree with the oil comments, as far as trying to stabilize the region, however, i think it's really 9/11 that sent us over there. if they hadn't done that, we'd let them behead each other as much as they want.
