Why aren't there more Turbo Busas Roadracing?

My children had finished high school by time I joined. Feel free to ask my kids. I was always there. Probably the best 25 years of my life.

Ah Robert. I didn't mean it like that. I meant it like no time to *make* children with that many posts, not be a father to them. I'm sure you're a fantastic father and that's a hell of a strong participation on a board.

In fact, I've been posting on these board since the mid-90's ....been a moderator of some rather well known boards for 10-15 years and that's quite a number. I'm impressed :)

My apology if you took that wrong. It was supposed to be a compliment.

Craash on here has a turbo busa putting out like 303 hp and he had it at the track. He was slower on it after the turbo than before. He had to keep getting off the gas to keep the front down. and Moloko, I was pitted next to you at the memorial day track day. I was on the red R1 in the garage next to yours.

With all respect, my turbo busa is super smooth on power delivery, totally predictable, and with the short lengths of plumbing there is no turbo lag. I have no problem riding around in corner on & off boost. I do experience turbo lag in my car but not on my bike. I totally agree when you say the power of a turbo is not needed for a road course application when you have todays engine power outputs on a NA engine.

Can I ask how much boost your running? I'd like you to do me a favor if it's a little higher.

Yeah, I remember chatting with you a bit that day. You have a busa also? I'll be back put there in August, I killed the r1 and not gonna have it back together for this weekend. =(

Craashs' bike is BA!

Majority of the time it is 7-8 but the bike is tuned to 13#, all I have to do is arm the second stage and hold the button.

Yeah, I have an 06 black busa as well. Craash just helped me put on a brembo rcs 19 on my r1 and some braided steel lines. Was going to go back this weekend, but hurt my back at work and don't want workmans comp to not pay saying i'm ok for the track. Oh well.

i think they all have to be set up within regulation

2ndly supercharged would be the way to go for power in;/out of curves

...at the amateur level?

Sorry for not posting this in the "Turbo" forum, but I wanted to get the big picture from some road racers that might not get into that forum too often.

So yeah... I check out the road racing vid's and whatnot...nice bikes, looks fun. Always gets my adrenaline up watching but I have yet to see a turbocharged bike on a twisty track.

Plenty of drag vid's though of course.

Does putting a turbo on your Hayabusa kill it for competing in the curves?

Sean
The main reason you don't see turbo bikes competing in roadracing is because no classes allow them. The reason you probably don't see many at track days is because a turbo bike is very expensive to build right, and even well built, they aren't very good at holding up under long, continous high boost levels like you'd see in road racing. A normally-aspirated pumped up motor is way better for that application. Most guys that build typical turbo's usually use them for dragracing, streetriding, and sometimes standing mile racing. I would never take mine out for a track day....I'm pretty aggressive and most likely would cook it quick...its just not up to that kind of abuse. Plus it has way too much power to try and harness on a road course
Now my stock-motored busa with bolt-ons or my gixxer 1100 will take anything, and I mean anything I throw at them, and just ask for more.

Remember Sean when you get that turbo bike, you can't go running it wfo for miles like a stocker....you can play with the boost hard and often, but you need to do it in bursts, and give the bike a little time to cool down in between. How long a turbo bike lasts is usually decided by the right wrist of its owner.

Just a small point....engine HP and torque are but a small part of the package for motorcycle road racing performance. Getting it to the ground in a lightweight, controllable package goes so far beyond "just bolting on a turbo" that books could be written about it. My humble little Busa would probably smash most all turbo Busas on a complex road course....and a well ridden 600 would smash my Busa! Raydog

You can race a turbo in the "Open Class"!
Didn't know that Tuf.......guess I gotta get my turbo out there and stretch its legs...for as long as she lasts
Honestly tho I'd LOVE to see a turbo bike competing on a road course. I guess I need to hit youtube up.....never see that kind of stuff on tv. Heck, I had to follow a link someone posted here just to watch the Isle of Mann TT.
Its a crime thats not televised.....at least by my cable provider :banghead:
