(dmrowe @ Feb. 23 2007,04:46) One of the warnings on the Puig double bubble instruction sheets was that you should not park in direct subnlight because of the magnifying effect of the shape of the windshield. Are you using a double bubble?
Even if it's the black one? I just bought one and this would be important to know. It does get pretty hot here in the summer.
Not to my knowledge.

This melting issue is common with the Sportech V-flow Chrome windscreen. The 'chrome' is on the inside of the screen and it reflects/magnifys the sun right onto the cluster.

I wouldn't think it would affect a black one, but a clear one yes and a smoke one??? Mine is smoke and I have watched it closely over the past year. Maybe it just needs to be at the right angle. Scary.

Theres alot of problems with after market shields melting the dash and gauges . Can't remember what ones were worse . Thats a bummer though!

man thats crazy, I have heard of this but never seen it.

Why didnt you upgrade to billet?

So CRAP!!! What do we do? How are we and our clusters going to survive this dispickable turn of events? My new Puig looks sooooooooooo good and now maybe it's a Wolf in Sheeps clothes, just waiting to devour my baby?

The only screens that I've heard that are prone to the melting issue are the Sportech V-Flow Chrome.

It's not the light shining THRU the screen that's the problem. The V-Flow has the shiny chrome applied on the inner side of the screen...and it's shiny on BOTH sides!

The sunlight bounces (reflects) off the tank onto the underside of the screen. It then gets 'magnified' by the curves in the screen and projected onto the upper part of the gauge cluster...melting it. Mine has even started to melt the middle of the tach needle.

(Revolution @ Feb. 23 2007,21:55) this sounds like a job for MYTH BUSTERS!

The myth has been proved many times over with plenty of pictures.

I can't believe how many regulars here with thousands of posts to their names have never heard of this problem before.

MINE IS DOING THE SAME THING!!! I thought I was just seeing things. I have a double bubble also

I have only heard of the chrome or iridium screens doing this in the 2 1/2 years I have been on this board.

Calm down fellas no screens other than the old see thru chrome style shields would do this. They act like a magnifying glass just as back when you were a kid burning up ants(lol)..All the shield companies now either black the backs out or put mesh screen in them to reflect/refract light as it enters the screens to stop the old melt my dash problems...Go ride yor bikes and quit worrying...
