Why I hate V-Twin open pipes

Come on guys think about what your saying, its not a Harley if you don't have lound pipes, you KNOW it sound awsome, you guys ***** about Harleys but please don't complaine about the loud pipes, if you do then your really reaching...And I don't own a Harley..... well use to have one

+1 Those screaming inline fours with just cutoff pipes reving to 12K at a light kill me just as much as the 2 cyclinders

This post is begging for a response. First, I did think about what I said and stand by it. Second, if it is a Harley, regardless of what exhaust is mounted, it's still a Harley. Third, my feelings about unnecessarily loud pipes don't constitute "really reaching" at all, they are my feelings and I own them.

You know it's the right sound and loudness if middle aged women go "oohwww", smile and point for their kids to see! If they go "aaaahhwww", grimace and cover their kids ears it's too loud. So there you have it a motorcyle sound litmus test coming to a inspection station near you!

Doyle I too have recently given this some thought, mentioned the exact same thing to Robert today during our ride. On one hand it kinda puzzles me because I can truly appreciate the sound of a high performance engine with an aftermarket tuned axhaust system, even the throaty loaping rumble of a V-Max with a full aftermarket exhaust, nothing quite like it, very aggressive and loud too but dosen't annoy me like the open piped harleys, they just seem to be an all out assault on your senses, maybe that's the intention.

The open pipe Harleys sound mean and ready to race, until they let the clutch out and you find they forgot to put any horsepower in the motor......but it sounds mean!! My Two brothers with quiet tips are very mild in comparison. The sissy horn on the King can't be heard over the Harley exhaust. The horn on the King is a real piece of work, it says "fag" every time you hit it.

Lucky, I'm really not taking anything personal, actually I'm quite a friendly fellow. I'm just reeling from the 20 or so loud v twins I endured on Saturday out in the country, it's OK if we disagree! Take care, Raydog
i beg to differ or atleast dissagre, on most ocasions, you hear the loud pipes when they are right on you or infront passed you, sound travels the other way..by that time theyve already been hit or whatever....loud pipes dont save crap......learning to ride does

Thats cool..I road ride too, its the cars and crazy drunks that scare me more than anything...Stay safe and live strong
