My answer is NO, as it stands right now! Everyone that I have ever talked to about motorcycles (those who ride and those who don't) know about the hayabusa. I think it forever changed the supersport bike arena, and still blows minds to this very day.

no it will not in any time soon have the same or even close status as the hayabusa.
the 14 riders can fool thereselves into thinking it will. but that is far as it goes.
the general public even now know the busa as king. too bad for kawasaki but a fact is a fact.
it does not matter that i ride a busa. my opinion would still be the same.

Well. if what came out of the Vegas show is true, that Suzuki said they will release a new Busa in 08 that will be the fastes bike in the world, then that will crush the 14 guys

And maybe that was what Suzuki was waiting for, to let someone come out with a bike that topped the busa, let them have a year / yeat and a half on top, then totally crush them again.

The guys on the 14 board and talking about "IF" the 14 can stay on top for a few years, if they only stay on top for 2 years and then get smacked down again, it will be a blow to their ego for sure.

My personal opinion is to have the Busa be on top since 99 and have a bike FINALLY come out that mariginally beats it, is not something to brag about.

And while the 14 might produce better numbers, I still say the aerodynamics of the Busa are superior to anything else out there

Okay, here's my thing:
I had a ZX-11 and it was my dream bike. Nothing but problems mechanically, but how could you not be in lust with that machine? It had a pretty good run in the 90's.... But that came to a screeching halt with the introduction of the Busa. I did not sell my -11 to buy a Busa, but I did sell it - and the next bike was a Busa. There was no question, no arguement the Busa was the new order.
Now, the 12 was supposed to be the same... but wasn't. The 14 was supposed to be the same... but wasn't. Is the 13.5 faster? By tenths, and that is disputed... So, all that build-up and what? Now if Zook brings out the guns and blows the doors off next year, well, it will already be at the advantage point due to the busa's rep and street cred. If Zook blows it though, and gives the Kows some time... well, then who knows...

According to the Oct. Sport Rider, in theory, the Hayabusa is still the fastest top speed STOCK production motorcycle produced to date. " A lot of things have changed since our 2001 test, but in the rarified world of high-triple-digit speeds, Suzuki's Hayabusa still reigns supreme. "

So there you have it. Read it and weep ZX 13.5 riders!!!! pissed.gif

Nope. Wanna know why? Here's why. The 14 hasn't done anything that the Busa hasn't done already. The Busa did what no other bike had done at the time of its release.

-Crack the 190mph barrier.
-Run 9 second 1/4 miles in 100% showroom stock form.
-Have at least 15HP more than almost any other production bike.
-Place function over form. People say its ugly but no one can deny its superb aerodynamics.
-No advertisemnt is needed. The bike sells itself.

The 14 can run a 9 second 1/4 mile, but so can the 12. It has monsterous Hp, but so does the 12. It can get close to 190mph but so can the 12. Where is the 12 now ... ?

The 14 can do alot but it can't do anything that the Busa hasn't already done. That coupled with the fact that the 14 will be humbled in '08 by the revamped hayabusa, is enough to say it will never gain the legendary status that the Busa has gained. It will be cast into the new Busa's shadow just as the 12 was cast into the shadow of the present day Busa.

Our popcorn smiley has a way bigger bucket than theirs does. I'm sure you understand the correlation.

maybe? i like the bikes looks and from what i hear, the performance and handling isn't too shabby

The reason why the 14 will NOT gain legendary status is simple.    It has NOT come on the scene with the dominance of the Busa.  When the busa came on the scene it was the most dominant bike in decades.  No other bike came close to it's speed & acceleration.  An average rider on a busa could wup a good rider on a blackbird or r1.  Well that day is over, there is only so much speed and acceleration a stock bike will produce.   The speed gap has become too narrow for any bike to dominate for longer than a year. Too many remakes and upgrades of previous years. We have busa owners whipping 14 owners, so NO it won't gain legendary status because it eased on the scene, it didn't burst on the scene.  Just my .02 and my .02 only!!!

correct me if im wrong but wasnt the blackbird the baddest A bike before the busa.....guy on the 14 forum says it was the zx-11?

(BigDawg_03Busa @ Oct. 05 2006,13:30) It was, you know kawi guys live in a dream world.  The blackbird wupped the 11!
I wouldn't call it whupped....
The 11 dominated for many years, in the same way the Busa has. The XX came along and was marginally faster, but was not a quantum leap forward, much like the 14 is faster, but not enough to make it definitive. In order to become an icon, a bike must decimate the benchmark, and sustain its place for several years, like the 11 and Busa.

I don't think it will ever reach the legendary status the Busa enjoys.
Most Saturday nites, I ride over to Aransas Pass and hang around a parking lot where cars, trucks, and bikes all meet up...
My Busa is always the most looked, at and talked about vehicle there...
Always...
Several times, a small group of riders from Corpus Christi stop by, and there are two 14's usually in the group...
Not once has anyone even noticed the 14's, except when they were in the front of the group when they parked...
And then, most say that it's quite ugly for a new bike...
And some have even picked on the owners about how the 14 seems to have missed the mark...
And how it is not the so called "Busa Killer" it was originally proclaimed to be...
So, I think it's an interesting bike, but it's not a Busa...

So they didn't want to give up the crowm when the Blackbird barely beat the ZX-11 but they are so quick to claim the title when the 14 barely beats the Busa? rock.gif  laugh.gif

Nothing will ever hold the record as long as the busa did and that just the facts. lurk.gif lurk.gif
