maybe next year they'll make a motor with 1398cc or 1402cc so they could actually give the customer what they think their buying (global rip off)

(BigDawg_03Busa @ Oct. 05 2006,13:30) It was, you know kawi guys live in a dream world.  The blackbird wupped the 11!
I wouldn't call it whupped....
The 11 dominated for many years, in the same way the Busa has. The XX came along and was marginally faster, but was not a quantum leap forward, much like the 14 is faster, but not enough to make it definitive. In order to become an icon, a bike must decimate the benchmark, and sustain its place for several years, like the 11 and Busa.
by whup" I meant was more dominant. Like you said and I repeat it wasn't as dominant as when the Busa came on the scenes.

my opinion is....

the busa gained its popularity when the speed restriction was not in effect. It was advertised to be the first "200mph" street bike. It was a screaming fast bike for its day just like the 11 was. Since then the restriction was put into play and every bike since then has been limited to that well known 186.

All bikes can say they are capable of faster than that (which alot are) but the shear fact is the busa was the fastest production bike in the world during those times and will continue to be until this "speed restriction" is taken away.

The Busa is what a 200mph bike looks like. It's ahead of it's time, so it look is timeless.

A more important question is "Are you the real Slim Shady?"

oh oh i want to add in, if you read through their form, many MANY of the zx owners are saying the zx14 is no where near as glorious as the busa, they even acknowledge that the busa is still hard to beat with the zixxer and its used the same design for 8 years...i say, the busa is the ledgend and the zx14 is just something thrown out to make suzuki change the damn thing, have less vibration, put a 1398 big bore, and get some things done to it that they needed to for a long time, if you ask me, 135 is not 1400,

leg·en·dar·y (ljn-dr)
adj.
1) Of, constituting, based on, or of the nature of a legend.
2) Celebrated in legend.
3) Extremely well known; famous or renowned. See Usage Note at legend.

legen·dari·ly adv.

ZX14 doesn't have anything like that. When I say 'Ya I'm gonna buy a Hayabusa in a month or so' I get a 'Holy crap are you serious?! That bike is the bomb!' back. On the other hand when I say 'but I'm also looking at this new ZX14' I've gotten 5 replies so far.

"The grill on wheels?"
"Thats the George Foreman grill I've heard about right?"
"Why? So you can ride it hard then flip it on it's side and grill up some hamburgers?"
"The one with the grill, right?"
"Whats that?"

This does not constitute legendary status....maybe in 5 years when I mention the ZX14 and somebody says 'Oh ya, the grill! I remember that bike, it rocked!' then yes...it will have legendary status.

The ZX13.5 did not revolutionize the sport touring performance arena the way the busa did. It doesnt reek style except maybe in the headlight area (good or bad). The ZX has old school side grills, a single piece seat and NO storage. The swingarm looks like it was made by a blacksmith in a stable.
The motor is a good, not great, platform for Kawi to base it's big bore line on. A sportbike, a naked sportbike and a touring bike. It probably makes sense for Kawi to try to beat the busa for the publicity but it's even better for designing a performance based engine that is interchangeable for it's different style of bikes and from a cost perspective for the company. It was time for Kawi to upgade/update in the motor dept.

Suzuki has been the top performer in racing for years due mainly to contingency awards and I don't see that changing. Everytime another manufacturer ups the ante Suzuki raises the call. It's their lifeblood.

I'm sure the ZX-14 is a fine bike in it's own right but its not a legend and will not be a legend because their is a new busa coming next year and it will be the fastest without a doubt again. To be a legend it has to be on top for awhile, several years not just a year or two.

And Suzuki is just playing the waiting game. Inch by inch. Marginal is not enough to dethrone a legend. And even though the ZX-14 might have more horsepower and a few tenths of a second it still does not out handle a hayabusa. For the ZX-14 to be king it has to dominate in every category and to be a legend, dominate for a long time.

Looks aside, which I am liking more and more, the new busa will be extremely trick. Wait and see what this new badboy will do. Especially with the easy mods. Can you say untouchable.

Kawi might as well come out with it and have a ZX-15. If they do Suzuki is not going to round up like kawi does it will have a 1400. 1500, 1500 turbo, maybe some wings and a then a flux capacitor and you will be able to travel back in time.

No matter where I go, someone walks by and says that's a Hayabusa the fastest bike on the planet.

That includes SUV drivers, HD guys, some kid rides MX and comes running out of this store where I pulled up, "DAD! DAD! LOOK! A HAYABUSA!". He was only 10 or 11 years old.

People have asked me about the 14 mostly because they don't know if they've seen one or not. Once I descibe it as having the George Foreman grills on the side, they laugh and now know what to look for.

(NightCrawler @ Oct. 04 2006,07:50) The 14 can do alot but it can't do anything that the Busa hasn't already done. That coupled with the fact that the 14 will be humbled in '08 by the revamped hayabusa, is enough to say it will never gain the legendary status that the Busa has gained.
HAH!
I wrote that back in 2006!

Just like to add, with all respect to the ZX-14, has it really exceeded the 1999-2007Hayabusa. It seems kind of like the ZX-14 has been simply accepted as having become the king of the hill, so to speak. I’ll see a ZX-14 maybe semi-win a drag race with a Hayabusa once in a while, I repeat, once in a while, but it’s usually due to the ZX getting a jump start or having a smaller and maybe better rider, etc. I’m not really aware of anyone on a Hayabusa ever given any grief from someone riding a ZX-14; if not quite the opposite happens, once again, all respect due to the ZX-14. It just seems like the reputation has been given over to the ZX-14. If you’re giving the Busa’s title over due to the writings of the magazines, well, they’re probably just looking for a battle.

Nothing will most likely have the 8 year, practically no changes, reign that the Hayabusa has achieved in this age of motorcycles, when change occurs almost every other year on motorcycles at the least!

The Hayabusa is an incredible achievement in motorcycle technology! bowdown.gif And that’s that! Some just can’t get over it.

(Cblast @ Jul. 22 2007,23:11) Not this SH*% again!
Oh yes it is back! smile.gif

I think this one will rage for a while. Kawi tried several times to get where they are today with the ZX14. MV Augusta is bragging about its new 312. Heck Maybe BMW will come out with a K1200HP model next year to try and fulfill the promise of the K1200. Yamaha is working on the new V-max, it too may end up being wicked fast as well. Honda has been rumored to be getting in this game again to try and get some market share back from the Busa Juggernaut. In the end though look at what is happening here. They are all more or less aiming at one target! The Hayabusa! Not just because of the Torque or the way it looks or all of the speed records it holds or the way it handles everything(!) with ease. The Hayabusa is the total package. What Manufacturer wouldn't want a piece of that? Nuff said.
