Would you follow a cop on hgwy above the speed limit?

They hold up traffic like crazy at 55 :angry:
Around here they have a silent call code where they are not allowed to use sirens or lights. Usually if a conflict comes up they'll advise they were on a call.

I was riding with a fellow and both he and the officer went for the middle lane at the same time and neither used a signal. Both of them saw each other at the same time and both over corrected making someone a little mad.
No tickets though.BTW the officer said he was on a call
That was a few years back, and since then I have learned about the silent code issue.
PS: we were actually in a decommissioned police car ourselves (still had some of the numbers on it) which made it even funnier.
I think it was an HOV lane? Have to look at video cuz I can't remember if that part of I95 is or not?
And yes there was three of them in the vehicle.

Tell that to them. As law officers they are supposed to follow the very laws I'm supposed to.
I was simply following their example. I know two wrongs don't make a right but it would be kinda hard to blame me for doing same as them. They are not above the law either.
I have always done it on bike or in cage ??? And as far as silent calls or if they need lights/sirens to break the law, well I would say that is gonna be who you ask. I've had cops say their suppose to obey all laws just like anyone else if they have no lights/sirens on, then you get ones that claim they don't need anything on because they are the law.
I'd say if you get pulled and get a ticket take it to court and make them prove they had a legitimate reason to be breaking the law also.
Best ones to find are out of state cops that are speeding and hang with them, cause I hooked up with this KY trooper once coming thru Columbia ,SC on my way back from Mrytle Beach in a unmarked but lights in grill/windows etc and antennas. Got behind him and we cruised together all the way to Knoxville before splitting up, as he was exiting he looked over laughed and just give the thumbs up and went on. As he was out of state breaking law same as I was, but still being in cop car everyone cleared out of his way.
This was just his cruising speed, he did kick it up from there quite a bit.

That is so true!! But too many THINK they are? Just like this ole boy, but she showed him otherwise.

Yes I will follow them with the 2 second distance rule of thumb up to 15 MPH of posted speed limit.

ive paced people from in front of me and behind me. ive even run radar while moving down the highway with a vehicle following behind me. (yes, you can run radar from behind you while moving if the antenna is pointed backwards and in moving mode) cops are not breaking the law while exceeding the posted speed limit while in the performance of their duties.
it makes no difference if they are enroute to a call or not. police officers are exempt from motor vehicle laws while in the performance of their duties. it does exempt them from using due care and caution when doing so but a cop while working and speeding down the highway is NOT breaking any motor vehicle laws contrary to what many of you think.
Sec. 14-290. Exemptions from motor vehicle laws. (a) Motor vehicles in the custody and use of officers in the performance of their duties shall be exempt from any traffic regulations of any town, city or borough, and from the provisions of this chapter and of chapter 246, so far as such exemption is necessary for the effective enforcement of any of the provisions of the statutes.
(b) The following provisions of the general statutes shall not apply to operators of maintenance vehicles or equipment of any governmental agency or agent thereof or to vehicles or equipment of any governmental agency or agent thereof, so far as such exemption is necessary, while such operators and equipment are engaged in or are preparing to engage in or are departing from highway maintenance operations on any highway, road or street, provided the Department of Transportation shall not by reason of such exemption suffer any loss of revenue granted from any agency or department of the federal government for the federal Interstate Highway System or any other highway system: Sections 14-216, 14-230 to 14-233, inclusive, 14-235 to 14-242, inclusive, 14-244 to 14-247, inclusive, 14-250a to 14-252, inclusive, 14-261, 14-262, 14-264 to 14-271, inclusive, 14-299, 14-301 to 14-308, inclusive.
(c) Any wrecker, as defined in section 14-1 and operated in accordance with section 14-66, shall be exempt from the provisions of section 14-267a, provided such wrecker is towing or hauling a motor vehicle that was involved in an accident or became disabled and remains within the limits of a highway, or is being towed or hauled by order of a traffic or law enforcement authority and does not exceed a gross vehicle weight of eighty thousand pounds on five or more axles. Any wrecker towing or hauling such a motor vehicle in a combination that exceeds a gross vehicle weight of eighty thousand pounds on five or more axles shall be exempt from the provisions of section 14-267a, provided such wrecker is operated in accordance with section 14-270 and has been issued an annual permit as described in subsection (d) of section 14-270.
(d) A vehicle or vehicle combination used exclusively by the state or a municipality, or any authorized agent or contractor of the state or municipality, for the removal of leaves and similar, organic materials from any highway, road or street, shall be exempt from the provisions of sections 14-261, 14-261a and 14-262, provided such vehicle or vehicle combination is being operated by a person who is the holder of a commercial driver's license bearing a "T" endorsement.

Brett thanks for that. I wasn't trying to to imply they were breaking the law and were bad because of it.
Just following them was all. They weren't driving crazy and as a citizen I've got no complaints about what they were doing. Operating in a safe manner in left lane rolling past people. I just fell in behind and let them clear the way.

Its this cop mentality that give em all bad names. Exempt from laws? Just because your on duty and a cop!? No wonder 3/4 of the police force or more is corrupt and pigheaded. When the rules are written to allow them to be so?! Its unreal they teach officers that it ok to break laws cause they are police. Lead by example. Not by do as i say not as i do. Makes me sick.
