You`ve nothing to lose by taking the sump pan off. It has to come off anyway. Then from the inside, you will see if it has any form of insert in it. Try and disslodge the insert and take it out.
Then drill out the ruined threads to 15mm then tap out new hole to m16 thread to receive a Honda Civic (car) sump plug.(M16 thread) Off the top of my head I cannot remember if its (M16 by 1.5 or 1.0 pitch) so get the sump plug 1st to gauge its pitch.
The inserts are good but the way the pan is designed it has a cut out at the threads to drop the sump totally empty. If you put an insert in it, the insert itself blocks the cut out at the threads so a slurry gunge will build up over time.
The standard plug is M14, I had planned an insert until I took the pan off and saw that the gunge would build up, so had nothing to lose so drilled and tapped to accept the Honda Civic sump plug, that was 3 yrs ago now and no leaks weeps or worrys.
I changed the oil and filter this morning to a new breed of oil, to my busa "castrol power 1" and after a ride out and a bloody good thrashing, the oil light started flickering on tickover, but thats another thread possibly.
