I have slowed down on my track visits because it is winter but I went some more times and I still have not seen Black Dragon on his nine second 140 MPH Busa that he rides to LACR from San Diego. And last time out, with stock gears, I got my best trap times ever with the best being 133.99. This is way up on 16/42 gearing and also better than with 17/42 or 17/41 gearing. It appears that a stock Busa likes to work through relatively tall gearing using its massive torque. And, taller gearing is a lot easier for a non talented person to launch.
And, BTW, trap speeds do matter, at least to the NHRA, since they have track records for trap speeds as well as for ET's. As long as I have been drag racing, trap speeds were always an indicator or RWHP, and ET was an indicator of efficiency. Back in the day, when I first started racing, trap speeds were all we really talked about. When a flag man started the race, timing to 1/1000's of a second was really not possible, but the speed trap at the end of the strip would be managed by the equipment of that time.
