2003 Gsxr1000

I’m curious to know what’s the 4 digit code stamped on that OEM muffler.

This one ... now I'm curious, too.
What sharp eyes you have @mabupa! Nice!

Dang it….. not the one I thought so @sixpack577 can have it.! Little background….. the ones stamped x40F0x are sought after by DR650 owners because it is a good way to get rid of weight in a dr650 and provide the perfect amount of back pressure to make it perform better after carb/air box adjustment and they are not much louder that the stock exhaust. The fact that it is a Suzuki OEM part is another big plus, but they were standard on early 2000s GSXRs and harder to find these days.

Cool, nevet heard that.
Were they made of different materials?
Any idea on the weight difference?
Otherwise, I think the 01/02 and 03/04 exhaust is the same??

Yeah, I'm die-hard
I love Suzukis.
I'll have to take some pictures of my Suzuki 'Fan Boy desk at work tomorrow.
I'm still waiting on my Maisto Gen3 and Gsxr to go on it, lol

I plan to add a few more pictures under the plexiglass, not that they could be seen that well, but they'll cover up all the woodgrain.
And my 2 bikes will sit next to the 4wheeler, in the background.
My last desk I sat at for over 7 years, it was clean, well organized...and boring.
Not so this time, lol

The original is an ugly thing that weights about 15LBs and the 40F0 is titanium/aluminum and weights in at 4.6LBs or so. If I remember right, they were only in the 2000-2002 gsxr 1000. Here is a pic of a my 24F0, 35F0 and 40F0 when I was experimenting with different models. Also a pic of the 24 on my DR after I made a mid pipe and moved the hanger on it. The 24s are the gen1 busa’s OEM mufflers and longer compared to the 40s.

A 4.6 lb stock muffler?!
That's awesome, and I bought a new Gsxr1k in 2002, and I put a full Yoshimura on it, but can't remember how heavy the muffler was.
I have the stock titanium muffler off of the '18 Gsxr1k too, but it is a slip on, so the midpipe is just a flared sleeve on both ends, vs the 01/02 and 03/04 where (as you know) the factory midpipe Bolts to the muffler.
I can buy an aftermarket midpipe that will fit, but I can't be sure the muffler hanger bolt hole will line up with the passenger peg, I'de have to buy the midpipe to find out.
I can also buy a midpipe that slides on to the header, but has the 4 bolt hole flange on the muffler end, so the stock muffler and all bolt-on aftermarket mufflers for those years all fit.
Neither aftermarket midpipe have the stock style butterfly valve in them, they're just straight through.
Both are $100-$120 each shipped.
Decisions decisions...I've found that the hardest part about these kind of projects is trying to spend as little as possible, but still do it right.
And you are no help at all!
Giving me unicorns to chase!
Bah!

lmao

love that quadzilla desk mat! but to rewind, you going to put a 13 year old on a that 03 1k or just teach him how to wrench?

Yes sir, I love the 500 Quadracer.
I'de own one, but aging knees don't want to kick it, lol.
And Yep, he's never rode anything...so I'm going to start him out right...on the 1k!
lmao
Nah...I'm not That bad...hard as that is to belive.
Yes, he wants to learn to ride a dirtbike, and he wants to learn how to work on them, and Anything else that I'll show him.
My daughter is 12, very smart and well behaved, and a great kid in general...but she doesn't really care what old Dad is working on, lol, even if I try to get her involved, but, I understand.
Him on the other hand, if he's at my house and I'm working on anything, or if I have to fix something at his house...he's right there, and he wants to know how, and to try it himself.
When I first showed him this 1k, and that We were going fix all these things so he could learn, you could tell he was genuinely excited.
I will say, "Hey, do you want to learn how to"...and he is already knodding yes and stopping whatever he is doing.
It would be a shame and disgrace on my part not to teach the both of them Everything that I possibly can, especially this generation, as most can't change oil, a tire, and many even a lightbulb...

@mabupa
Check out @HayaWakened 's picture
That's the stock midpipe with the butterfly valve in it...and it has blue'd...like it's titanium.
Assuming it is, that would mean the muffler And midpipe were ti and aluminum, and randomly matched at the factory, apparently until each aluminum and titanium muffler and midpipe ran out, and were replaced with identical looking, but much heavier stainless steel, and some aluminim.
I am also positive that my 02 Gsxr1k had a stainless steel midpipe, as it did not color or blue.

I had a 250 Quadracer and it was a lot of fun....not much good for anything other than playing on though.....

Exactly...powerslides and donuts.
They were hard to wheelie because they spun so easily too, lol
Nothing like that kind of throttle response and power on a 4wheeler.
Banshees, 250R Hondas, and even the little air cooled Blasters are so much fun to ride, I love 2-strokes.
