I’ve seen people go to the nearest exhaust shop and get a mid-pipe made but some want to charge an outrageous amount. I went the cheap route for flange on my mid pipe and bought SS plates and drilled the right size hole with a hole saw and then marked the studs and drilled those holes on my drill press, then used an eBay generic stainless pipe and cut the header end of the OEM mid-pipe and “Frankensteined” something together using my trusty harbor freight welder. Welds looked like crap but it didn’t leak at all. You don’t have to be a good welder if you have some spare cash for grinding wheels. finally, a nice coat of exhaust paint made it pretty. I don’t expect the paint to last long but the mid-pipe is hidden behind the side panel anyways so…..A 4.6 lb stock muffler?!
That's awesome, and I bought a new Gsxr1k in 2002, and I put a full Yoshimura on it, but can't remember how heavy the muffler was.
I have the stock titanium muffler off of the '18 Gsxr1k too, but it is a slip on, so the midpipe is just a flared sleeve on both ends, vs the 01/02 and 03/04 where (as you know) the factory midpipe Bolts to the muffler.
I can buy an aftermarket midpipe that will fit, but I can't be sure the muffler hanger bolt hole will line up with the passenger peg, I'de have to buy the midpipe to find out.
I can also buy a midpipe that slides on to the header, but has the 4 bolt hole flange on the muffler end, so the stock muffler and all bolt-on aftermarket mufflers for those years all fit.
Neither aftermarket midpipe have the stock style butterfly valve in them, they're just straight through.
Both are $100-$120 each shipped.
Decisions decisions...I've found that the hardest part about these kind of projects is trying to spend as little as possible, but still do it right.
And you are no help at all!
Giving me unicorns to chase!
Bah!
lmao
Sorry to make your decision even more complicated. Lol! Wish you were closer, because I’m sure with the extra material I have laying around, we could put something together that would look nice. I’ve been wanting a pipe bender but the garage is getting full and I refuse to leave my vehicles out in the Florida sun 24/7. God willing, I’ll have a piece of land one day to build my dream shop.
