Big news for guys who have Roberts on their team,
King Kenny Roberts confirmed moments ago the rumors which have set the racing woods ablaze this afternoon--that his youngest son Kurtis (28), will begin racing for the Team Roberts MotoGP team at Mugello next weekend.
The deal is for two races and was brought about, Roberts says, by the dismal results the team is experiencing this season.
"Junior suggested it," Roberts said. "It's been disastrous for us this year and I have always said that it's impossible for us to do what we do with only one rider. He came to me and said, 'we need to get someone else on the bike'. He's as frustrated as the rest of us are."
"We're not sure where we're at and we need more data," the three-time world champion said. "We don't know if what our problem is because of the chassis, the tires or the rider or something else, and we're not going to be able to get the data we need with only one rider. We can't use the traction we have."
"Last weekend (at Le Mans) was very bad," Roberts said.
The deal with Kurtis is for two races, "at the moment" Roberts said, opening the door for more opportunity for Kurtis if this proves fruitful.
So if Kurtis replaces Junior, here's what the rules state;
If the team replaces your rider with another rider, you get the replacement rider.
linky here--
If Junior and Kurtis both race, then this doesn't matter.
This is a cool little twist
