2009 Gun Buying Plans?

I bought a S&W AR15T about two years ago, since then I've picked up a few "bits" here and there. I've fired bushmasters, a Colt, the Smith, and a DPMS and to be perfectly honest they are all tinker toys. Throw a blanket over em' and they are all identical where it counts, they can all shoot better than I can so it's a moot point.

If I had to pick a favorite though, I'd have to say the Smith and Wesson, Mostly cause it's what I've been shooting the most. I will likely buy a couple more lowers though just in case the question always comes down to forged or billet...

Is the AR15T the M&P 15? I saw one at gander mountain and they seem like they'd be really comfortable to shoot. (The way they're built).

Smith and Wesson huh? Maybe I'll give one of those a try.

My AK is a BLAST to shoot, but I'd give my eye-teeth to have a rifle that shoots sub1" groups at 100yds all day long...(what I've heard they can do).

One of those HK416's, or some of those new piston-setup ones, (similar to the AK) would be neat. I've heard they don't loose much (if any) accuracy, and are much lower maintenance...do you have any experience with these yet? ???

No I don't but I want one (Piston) gun cause yeah they are a whole lot less filthy. Yup, The S&W is the M&P 15T and yeah you can drill 1-2" groups all day, tighter if you are well sandbagged with some Black Hills ammo. All I shoot though is LC M193 so I get consistency but not really the tightest grouping, well that and I'm kind of a chimp on the trigger.

Be sure to check out the Sig556 as you probably know Sig Sauer makes some exceptional weapons.

went to a gun store I frequent and they are now completely out of black guns. (AR's)

I am trying to keep from talking myself into buying an AR pistol. I already have a rifle...so what better way to compliment an AR rifle than with an AR pistol.

...and for those unaware...Joe Biden was one of the pushers of the AR ban that sunset in 2004.

I have a couple of Colts but have been seriously considering a 556 SBR for a few months. I had one in my hands Saturday. I've want to SBR my carbine for several years and keep talking myself out of it. When Sig had a few of these at the last shot show, my mouth started watering.

I just may have to part with a Colt to make it happen

Are the Sig556's as accurate as the M series? (M&P, DPMS, etc.)

I think I held one at a sportman's shop, and they felt a little...cheap? Felt kinda plasticky to me. But hey, if they're as accurate as the AR's, who gives a crap how they feel!

Accuracy on an AR-15 is going to vary widely depending on the manufacturer. I haven't kept up, but if it was a duty gun.... I'd be sticking to a Colt.

Wait until you have a commision and order a LE6920 or a LE6921 (an extra $200 tax stamp) at the discounted rate. You won't be sorry. I've seen too many clones fail, athough there is some decent stuff out there.

The Sig should prove just as reliable and accurate but will cost much more.

Moto, that is not the SIG but a POF. They has the SIG at my local dealer and I let them talk me out of buying that. The specs on this American made POF gun is in the link and it is according to the sales guy, it's a great gun but I'm not a real expert. Two sold while I was there and there was only two left and I jumped on it and the dual mag and rear flip sights. I'll go back soon and get some additional goodies for the rail system.

Oh, my apologies.

How much would it cost...(if I were to buy a base-model)? ???

I'd like to have something in the $800-$1500 range...

MSRP on the RECON was $1995 but the local dealer was already at $2,199.00 not including the flip sight or dual drum mags. I would think the issues is finding one before they are all gone. Every gun store I visited yesterday was a made house. Good luck MOTO

Thanks sky, I'll be looking into this one!

If the government does actually come for our guns, it's foolish in the extreme to think you're going to be squared away with a "stash"... It's comedy in the extreme, just like the blowhards talking about "they ain't taking my guns". Yeah OK RAMBO, when reality sets in and there are some Federal scumbags on your porch, and you're finally dealing with reality you'll hand em' right over cause you are a law abiding citizen...

Kinda like the Jews standing calmly in line waiting to be shot and gassed?

Don't need any new ammo. But I don need to take and inventory and start picking up some reloading components.

Yeah Exactly like that.... OR NOTHING like it... Don't talk to me till you figure out where reality is.

I would say the exact opposite. As a certified AR15/M16 armorer as well as a LEO who is a certified patrol rifle instructor with years of tac team experience, I would steer clear of any AR that says colt on it.

Reason is because colt has made so many changes, different size pins, different this, different that. You can't count on a mil spec part to fit a colt.

I would go with Armalite, Rock River or Bushmaster in that order. All will accept mil spec parts, no guessing on which trigger or which pin or which spring will work or not work plus all three are top quality firearms. Also stay away from DPMS and the other clone versions.

As for gun purchases, I've bought two new glocks in the past week and a half and also acquired a new Mossberg field/deer combo 12ga today. Mossberg isn't my first choice but I won it in a raffle, got $5 in it so I can't argue.

Stock up on ammo and high cap magazines as well.

Gun manufacturers love president elect Obama, he's shaping up to be a better gun salesman than Clinton ever thought of being! Might also grab some smith and wesson stock as well as ruger stock, both are publicly traded and are at bargain prices right now and should turn record profits over the next year or two.

I'll admit I don't make my living with an AR, but I do have to disagree with the notion that the only way to go is Colt. I've shot both Bushmaster and Colt for qualifying, I've carried both versions of an M4 and I couldn't see one bit of difference between the two, other than the Bushmaster having better stocks. I think Colt has kind stagnated a little bit and that the competition or "clones" have surpassed em'.

Check out the offerings from Smith and Wesson, they are trying hard and are using top quality components (Stag, Troy Industries, etc) for their AR Builds. Yeah I am prolly a little biased but I will say that while I've found very little difference from one AR to the next I do favor the Smith, just has a terrific feel and action.

Got two on my list. The olympic arms plinker plus. Basically just the older version of the M16. Nothin fancy, just something to help with my shooting before I go to LDAC next summer. That and the FN Herstal 5.7. Those are the two I got on my list. Already have the AR pistol. Kel Tel PLR 16. Tons of fun

Thats an old pic of it. I've got a small muzzle brake on it and the fore end pistol grip.
