The goal is to get near the coast by the afternoon, temps are normal 100 plus in this area north of Napa.

We have this tradition on hot summer days of always building an ice cream stop into our ride day.

Reaching the coast, the trees are shaped by the constant wind. Temps drop 30 degrees.

New rubber, much happier

New rims, new tires, new chain, new SuperSprox, Woodcraft stator cover, F/R Galfer Wave Rotors, Hot Shot stator & Regulator/Rectifier, Clearwaters are on, T-Rex Sliders and the turn signals are swapped out for clear. Better.

On this ride, we had a chase vehicle, one of the wives wanted to come along but preferred to drive.

Not raining, but the fog is so thick, it's like rain hovering in the air.

No visit to the coast is complete without checking out one of the lighthouses

You meet a lot of interesting people doing this.

My friend Hana who rode down from Toronto, Canada to join us. After three days of riding in California, she'll turn around and ride solo back to Toronto. We've been riding together for 10 years, and being retired, she spends all her time riding in other countries like India, NZ, Spain. A former Artillery officer in the Israeli army, very interesting gal to chat with.

Hwy 20 over the coast range inland, and then turn right around and head the other way. Branscomb Rd back out to the coast,

Then Hwy 1 Leggett Section back inland, crisscrossing the Coast Range several times. The 22-mile Leggett section of Hwy 1 is likely one of twistiest roads in the state. Often deserted, it's a true joy to ride.

Lush and green mostly year-round, riding over two ranges to get to Hwy 101.

and then we have a catered dinner together. Riders love this place.

Coast is different every day. Wait 24 hrs and it's beautiful and sunny.

AUGUST

Late August is Labor Day and we're headed back through the Trinity Alps to southern Oregon to ride.

Bald Hills Rd - few months ago, these hills were all green, now they are burnt golden brown

Lewiston, CA, old gold rush town

Along with a stop for a snack

Southwestern Oregon

Logging companies often keep these road in very good shape.

66 Miles over the pass, head into Merlin for lunch.

OCTOBER

Planned a ride into the Central California Foothills, no higher than 5000 feet, I call this one the Mile High Xtravaganza

Wards Ferry Rd, just one lane and steep drop into the canyon below & back out

Keep your eyes on the road, long way down.

For this ride, I rented a house, and we all settled in. Pines Resort near North Fork, nice place.

They filmed John Candy's The Great Outdoors here, although the story was set in my home state of Wisconsin, Nope, Sierra Nevada Foothills.

See the KTMs? Couple years ago, you never saw KTMs, now the guys are selling their BMWs and Multistrada's and getting KTMs instead.

Still working on the new Hayabusa, I borrowed Matt's and rode his for this ride.

May have noticed by now I've got a penchant for remote deserted one-lane mountain roads.

This is called the Mammoth Pool Loop.

We're in the Central Sierra just south of Yosemite, these granite domes are indicative of this area of the Sierra Nevada, the most famous being Half Dome in Yosemite Valley. To the immediate south is Sequoia NP, and one of these granite domes, Morro Rock, you can walk up to the top, very cool.
