Added a brand new tour to the line up this season. What if we started in Northern California, headed for Mount Shasta, one of the tallest mountains in the United States, then headed out to the Pacific Coast - all in the same weekend. I'm sure we can find lots of twisties along the way.

cattle ranchers in Norcal? But they're from Oregon. Mooo!

We're here to ride these.

Peter brought his XDiavel from Texas all the way to California to ride. The rear tire on the XDiavel is crazy wide.

I'm running a 200 and it makes my 200 look tiny.

At a low summit, we got a glimpse of nearby Mount Shasta

Mount Shasta - it's huge - and it's right there. It has an elevation of 14,179′ & you can clearly see the treeline.
There are no paved roads above the treeline on Mount Shasta.
Mount Shasta is the start of the Cascade Range all the way up to Canada, and marks the end of the Sierra Nevada Range along the California-Nevada border.

Getting off the bikes is a great way to hang out and catch up. Ken (on the right) is turning 80 next year and has no plans to slow down.

He's already signed up for five tours in 2025 coming out to CA from Utah for his 80th circle round the sun.

Headed towards Mount Shasta - the white mountain in the distance

Mount Lassen is a cinder cone volcano - it last erupted 100 years ago. No eruptions are expected anytime soon, but it's still steaming and known for bubbling hot springs and sulfur springs on the south side of this mountain.

I wrote a long-winded article about this mountain awhile back... interesting stuff.

NorCal - we're getting closer to the Oregon border, it's all forests up here

Ever seen that movie, Final Destination?

Lot of straight roads through the forests

Pro tip: Don't lean up against your hot exhaust pipe.

We are near Fall River Mills and we have to stop at the sculpture garden.

You know they have to put up this sign because people climbing all over these things.

Found the twisty road - Cassell Fall River Rd is deserted, decent pavement, fast and twisty.

Everywhere you go in NorCal, you can see Mount Shasta. It's 14,000 ft height on a relatively flat plain makes it visible from many miles

How you know you're in far north NorCal.

Only thing missing on this sign is 'divorce'.

Still got that slow leak. No reason to fix it, I'll burn off this tire in a couple weeks. But I do have to constantly check the tire pressure and add some air every couple hours.

The whole reason for riding this far north was to go see an ice cave. A lava tube we can walk down into, that has ice in the bottom, even when it's 90 degrees outside, there will be ice in the bottom of the cave within sight of the surface. Fascinating stuff.

Highway 89 in NorCal has long long straights, reminds me of Northern Wisconsin, which sort of looks like this.
Miles and miles of remote forest land & straight roads.
