Yosemite Motorcycle Tour
The fall heat in California has been a bit crazy lately. It's hot.
Thursday before the ride, the day before, most of the tour participants converged on Oakhurst in the Sierra Nevada Foothills while riding in 100-degree temps. We had six riders from Southern California. One from Oregon. And the rest from the SF Bay Area.
To beat the heat, instead of riding the 3-hours after work on Thursday, I opted for the nighttime option and left home base at 330am night riding to the meet spot 3 hours from home base in 70-degree temps. That was likely the best option as it’s now fall in California but still crazy hot in the Central Valley and I'm not a fan of the heat.
There are three entrances into Yosemite NP. And our meet spot is Oakhurst near the south entrance, starting here, we can ride right into the national park.
It’s also the 15th tour of our busy motorcycle tour season, I'm running an organized motorcycle tour group almost every two weeks or every other weekend. I've already ridden 15,000 miles so far this year as we ride into October and head for the mountains. It snowed in Yosemite NP over Tioga Pass a few days ago, but thankfully not this weekend. The season change is coming soon.
The destination is Glacier Point at 7214 ft along the south (of three) entrance. Glacier Point offers a superb view of Yosemite Valley below along with Half Dome which looks close enough to touch. Fun part is you can look straight down 3200 ft. If you've ever been to the Grand Canyon, that's way deeper, but here at Glacier Point, you can look
straight down which boggles your senses in your brain.
On the bike at 3:40 am -it's already warm out
3 hours later, I make it to the meet spot in Oakhurst, the tour participants are already waiting for me.
