You're looking at the San Andreas Fault. It's out in the ocean south of here as it passes San Francisco, but Tomales Bay is the Fault strip as it heads down to Bolinas. Everything on the Ocean Side is moving upwards towards Alaska about an inch a year. Everything East is the North American Plate.
You can really feel in tune with your planet as Highway 1, on the northeast side of Tomales Bay, has some great curves that also go up and down. So if you are riding quickly, the limitations on sport riding aren't just two dimensional lean angle and contact patch, you get to a place where you actually feel gravity dialing in and out as the curves climb and dip. Riding that turns your bike into a gravitometer. Recommended.
