ok so a guy that i was riding with tonight had a 04 with pc and header and voodoo pipes and 3down and on the eway pulled on me hard as hell..... he was telling me that he went down 3 in the font and kept stock rear...... what are the effects of doing this other than ungodly acceleration even on the street it was sickening my buddy has a bking that has the same exhaust and a pc with alot of dyno time and 1 down 2 up and doesnt seem to pull on me that bad.... so any negative effects or anything because yeah its tempting

seems like it could potentially be hard on the chain since the circumference of the sprocket will be much smaller...i think it would be better to go -2+3 or -1+5 which should give you about the same final ratio...any of these will also decrease your gas mileage

i figured that about the gas mileage

Damn, 15 tooth front, that's tiny. That has to be tough on the chain.

+1. He's going to have very short chain life going around a sprocket that small. -1 tooth on the front is the same as +2-3 teeth on the back. Its better for the chain to run larger sprockets.

I have never heard of anyone putting a 14 front sprocket on a busa. The chain wouldnt last long and you would get about 15 miles to the gallon. That would be equivalent to 17/49. Is he 300 pounds? Thats alot of gear. You would be better off adding teeth to the rear. Try 16/44.

i was assuming it was a Gen II since he went -3 in the front and i've never heard of a 14 tooth front sproket for the Busa either...stock for them is 18/43 so a -3 would still be a 15 tooth...a -1/+6 would be 17/49 but might require a longer chain :beerchug:

hes 6'3 or so and id say about 250, completely chromed out bike extended 6" dropped 3 its a gen 1 and puts down enough power that even being extended i watched him rock a sit down from stop sign to stop sign.... like i said it was impressive... my bikes all stock minus drilling out the rear baffle on my exhaust and going to a 55 rear and he left me behind everywhere but in the corners which is only because hes running a shinko thats pretty flat in the center and i can get over pretty far in the corners on the eway. on the 55 rear ive only got bout 1/2" worth of chicken strips left on the edges and thats cause none of the corners are long enough for me to get that far over on them going fast enough lol

oh and he said he went down 3 so he could leave the rear sprocket stock so people dont realize whats all done to it, the bike looks sick but looks more show than go

see if he will tell you where he got a 14 tooth front sprocket for a Busa...i would like to know who makes and/or sells them...i've seen them for BMX bikes, 600's, and 4-wheelers but never for Busa's...it's never too late for me to learn something :beerchug:

My friend's 05 gsxr1000 is -3 front(I thought it was -2 but I asked him to confirm), it's been that way for almost 20k miles. He's due for new chain/sprockets but has had zero issues with it. It'll pull my gen2 by 2 to 3 bike lengths every time up to 150mph on my speedo(mine's +3 rear)then mine will go on by as he's running out of top end.

According to gearingcommander.com he would max out at 141 MPH. I was surprised. I was thinking they topped at 150, but GM.com states 172. Gonna have to check out the 2011 models now.

Same as the '05

I always stop and count the teeth on rear sprockets

Yea it has to be a pretty large sprocket for me to notice the difference, I do notice it on the stunters bikes and my eyes pop open when I see the monster size sprockets they run.

Sunstar makes small sprockets. I ordered 1 down for the front and they sent a 12 tooth..Wtf..was like a ritz with teeth
