Another case of stupid cagers

had a dumbass turn in front of me 3 months ago, watching that video i could feel the pain, driver told cops he had a bad day at work and wasnt paying attention.just bought a 05 and started riding again.hope that rider was as lucky as i was

maybe i would get a 100 POST bonus.. i would be more broke since it took my 3 years to hit 100.. what a shame.
hey, i feel your pain...i just hit 100 posts yesterday and it only took me 2 years and 8 months...

you did get a bonus for hitting 100 posts, you are no longer new recruit..you are now officially a "rookie"

I also hope the biker is okay ... that same scenario has happened to me countless times ... so far I've been very lucky with the brake and swerve avoidance technique. It has taught me to slow down and be very cautious when there's evan a potential for a cager to left turn in front of me. Let's all learn from this video.

That vid kinda reminds me of my wreck, same kind of scenario, but I wasn't speeding, and I flew off the bike before I hit.

Hope he's OK

Shnykies!!! Hope that rider is ok.... I can't believe that the only persons to respond were the ones in the station...

Where is everybody seeing these cars drive on by without a care in the world?

I see the car behind the first small SUV start to pull a left like he's going into the gas stations other entrance. The white crewcab truck stops. The small SUV behind the truck pulls up onto the sidewalk.

As far as the first small SUV, who's to say he didn't stop outside of the narrow camera angle? Common sense...the freakin accident happened in the blink of an eye, it's going to take a few seconds for what happened to sink into peoples heads before they react.
Hopefully when that video was played in the courtroom, the jurors were able to comprehend slow motion and freeze frame.

Devil's advocate:

Car looks ahead, does not see any oncoming traffic at speeds to intersect, assume safe turn passage... no one looks for a small dart going two to three times the posted speed limits in a busy urban area, proceeds AT THE TIME to make a safe left hand turn.

Oncoming biker is also responsible for watching out for his own safety in public traffic and should drive accordingly. Keep in mind he or she was probably on the brakes a LOT when they saw the obsticle, bringing the bike to the SLOW speed it was at, at impact. How fast was it going BEFORE it came on camera? Perhaps fast enough to be far enough away as to seemingly pose absolutely no threat to a turner glancing that way looking for traffic.

I hope to GOD that rider is ok, but I personally feel the responsibility for his/hers own personal safety in public falls squarely on their own shoulders. As it does on mine.

I feel bad this happened to anybody... I am a biker and want to live... I don't see the car driver doing anything more than be dumb like we all see and anticipate everyday we haul Bessie out of the garage. Still, overall, it is called an ACCIDENT and not an ON PURPOSE.

May more bikers see this video and ride a lot more paranoid on the streets, where we will ALWAYS lose the fight

I agree. I think the major fault is on the rider. The speed limits are not posted because it is a safe speed, they are there to allow others to judge the rate at which a vehicle is aproaching on any given road. When you see an object on the road like that you are expecting it to be traveling at the speed limit. That guy looked like he was going double the speed limit at the minimum.

I have put myself close to that situation a couple of times... Going a little to fast for the driver to gauge my speed... The only thing that saves you is being aware that the person in the cage is going to hit you if you don't evade them. The guy looked like he was moving quicker than he should have been... the driver did stop but the rider did not alter his/her course... Sad hope he is alright.

I read somewhere that the number one cause of motorcycle accidents is an automobile making a left turn at an intersection in front of the motorcycle. Keeps me wide eyed at intersections every time. Hope the rider is OK.

Yep, that's exactly what happened to me. Lady making a left turn and didn't see me. I wasn't going anywhere near as fast as that guy was.

And the thing that gets me is that there appears to be no other oncoming traffic to impede the white car line of sight. He/she should have spotted the motorcycle with no problem.

not if it was too far away to be noticed as a threat. or maybe a hill. or maybe the bike came around a corner and got on it. I can't count the times cars do stupid things *I* see and avoid, but the average is twice per ride.

In Denver this woman in a big SUV pulled slowly out infront of my at night. I saw it was GOING to happen, I ASSUMED she was goign to be an idiot and I was not let down. I was thinking, " no..... you have got to be kidding me.... I'm 100 feet away doing 35, my headlight is on.... here she comes,.... yup, right out..... you have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.... She STILL DOESN'T EVEN know I'm here. I guess I will change lanes to avoid hitting her even though I did give myself plenty of breaking and manuvering room for her idiocy... what's that? She's going to change lanes ON TO ME? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! SHE DOESN'T EVEN SEE ME FLASHIGN MY HIGH BEEM IN HER MIRRORS?

??"

twice a ride everage... and I'm doing the speed limit

watch out, out there .... take it to the track ;)

Judging from how slowly the car was turning left and quickly the motocycle flies by. I would guess that the motorcycle was going way too fast. The car came to a complete stop leaving plenty of concrete to swerve around. I couldn't see a turn signal on from the car.

I'd say they are both at fault.

Hope the rider is still with us.

Man that had to hurt

and watching that video, I got pissed at the driver:angry: !!! In a no hurry to go anywhere and also not paying attention to anything but there gas light obviously.

Motorcycle speeding, probably but in what should have been an empty lane. Ticket yes, hitting a car no.

Slow turning cage for no obvious reason (had a train of cages behind them). Then to stop across the lane... again for no obvious reason. I mean wtf? Brakes don't solve the fact your ACROSS A LANE... push the gas pedal.

Only thing I could see would be they ran out of gas RIGHT there... and that would so suck for everyone involved.
