Any ideas?

Too many oil changes…This round fastener has rounded off so my wrench won’t loosen it. Any ideas as to how I can remove it w/o buggering up the surrounding plastic? I can’t get enough of a grasp with needle nose pliers. I ran into this problem as I was removing all of them for an oil change. I did manage to remove the filter w/o removing the fairing thanks to the nut on the K&N filter and the oil is draining as I type. I’ll button everything up after the oil is drained and I replace the filter but I need to remove it anyway. Sure wish I had tiny hands!

Use these often work great and always nice to have in a pinch. you could get a cheap set at harbour freight? (I think that’s your cheap tool place in the states.) for probably under $25.

Several styles of these.
Any would work well on a low torque fastener like that.

Thanks guys. I’ll go to the store mañana. Tried the cutting discs that come with a dremel and managed a good slot for a large screwdriver to fit in but the (butter soft) bolt head just wouldn’t hold the screwdriver. MUSH head bolts!!!! Any recommendations for replacement bolts?

ebay or Amazon have complete fairing bolt kits that are fairly inexpensive

Shoulder? Whatever they’re called they’re the round headed fairing bolts.
It's called a button head allen.
But the 'shoulder' is a shaft without threads, underneath the head of the bolt, that is wider than the threads themselves.
Not just a standard bolt threaded all the way up to the head of the fastener, or the same diameter all the way up to the head of the fastener.
Alot of the fairing bolts are made that way because they go through rubber grommets before reaching the threads.
Meaning, if you replace with a standard style bolt(regardless of what type of fastener head), you will need some type of sleeve for the top of the bolt, to keep it tight in the grommet.
If it's a standard bolt, disregard.
A hardened torx head bolt, or anything stainless would be a good replacement, as that isn't a high torque fastener.
A small amount of anti-seize to prevent it from sticking again or gauling, which is also is kind of gummy, and also works like a low grade thread locker, which will help prevent it from vibrating loose.

Pro Bolt may have a Ti kit for those bolts...

@c10 would know...

Of course how many miles die the original one last?

I see your point. All of them worked well except for one but the metal they use is too soft. I replaced the front tank bolts right off seeing they would easily deform. The fairing bolts don’t get tightened very much though so I left them on. Stainless or any metal other than this soft aluminum would do nicely.

If it was mine i would just drill the bolt head out so i could get the panel off, so as not to damage the panel.
Once the panel is off there should be a good area to grip the sholder of the bolt to remove it. Worst case is you have to drill the whole bolt out and helicoil it.

Well, Murphy’s law was working overtime for me today. I got it off finally but for the life of me I couldn’t get the threads started on the oil filter! No matter what I tried and as you know, there isn’t a lot of hand space between the headers and the filter I just couldn’t get it started. Thinking the threads on the filter were at fault I drove 80 miles round trip for an OEM filter. Got home and voila, it spun right on. I got a blister on each thumb in my hours long attempt though! I ordered a SS fairing bolt kit.

Oh, my XM radio turned off on my way to town too. Sunofa! When I bought my car in November they gave me three months of free XM. I’ve been an XM subscriber for years on several cars and I simply transferred the service from the Caddy to the Lexus. Despite that, I got email after email saying my three free months of XM will expire soon so sign right up. Sure enough, three months later (today) the XM went blank. Now, I’ve already spent too much time on the phone with their CS and was told all will be fine. Not if Murphy’s law has anything to say about it! So…back to their CS department I go….If it wasnt sooo much better than FM I’d quit. Wish me luck. I’ll button up the Busa mañana.

I remember reading a post a while back where someone got an aftermarket filter on but it wasn't threading properly. He tried an OEM filter and it went right on. Best to go with what fits easily, I'd hate to damage those threads.

It was a K&N filter.....it wouldn't screw on....OEM went right on without a hesitation..

Never again will I use a K&N oil filter.
