Anybody ever seen this?

I sent my bike to the dealership today because I had the same problem with my bike. They said it was the gas tank breather tube. They also said that they would fix it for me. They told me to check back with them on monday to see if the part has come in. They will swap the part out for me the day they get it so I don't have to leave the bike there.

HELL YEAH YOU CAN. It happened to me and warranty took care of it all. What is that hose for?
the hose is a gas tank overflow tube.

The paint will bubble up like that when gas is

a) poured over a particular area

and

b) left on it (not wiped away quickly)

Remember, the paint will not be as thick on plastic as it will be on metal.

Easy fix? Have a longer tube installed and routed away from the fairing.

Also, try to avoid filling up your gas tank up that much. And stay away from knee-draggin twisties on a full tank of gas. The gas will flow over the interior lip of the tank, where the overflow drainage hole is located.

Just my .02, albeit it is a bit late.

Glad to hear the dealer will take care of you guys, it sux that zuki would overlook such a problem.

I just checked mine, mine has discolored the exact same area, no blistering though, just a bit of tan discoloration, my guess is we overfilled the tank some. Props to the person int his thread who traced the tubes to see what they are actually dripping. If it gets much worse I will cash in on the 4 year warranty

Ok, just checked mine no problems (200 mi on bike) I found that both of those hoses (what ever their for) fit inside a piece of 3/4" hose and a nomex spark plug boot cover fits over the 3/4" hose. I now have it exiting just forward of where the overflow hoses used to. The nomex cover should keep the hose from melting on the hot exhaust pipe. It hangs down about 1/2" on bottom can't see it from up top. Think this will work?

Saw this thread resurface and it prompted me to go look ... again. last time I looked I was fine. This time I am seeing it turn yellow and the beginning signs of the paint bubbling. My question is... On the guys that have had the dealerships agree to "Fix it" Exactly what are they doing? Are they replacing the Fairing and re-routing the hoses? or are they just re-routing the hoses? I wanna know 'cause I'm going to print this thread and take it with me to show them this ISN'T the first time it's happened!! I also want the fairing replaced since this is definately a factory defect issue.

I put her on the trailer and took her up to the dealership. After explaining the situation I took the service writer out to the bike and showed him the affected area. I then showed him the cause. I pulled up the two hoses and one was still wet on the last 1/4" of the hose. He grabbed his digital camera and snapped a pic of the hose and the lower fairing. He told me he will submit it to Suzuki and tell me when he gets an answer. He already entered it into his system so I am fairly confident this will be replaced/fixed by the dealership under warranty. I printed out the first pic on page one of this thread and also printed the Web address for this thread and left it with the service writer. Perhaps Suzuki will know what the cause is and what is necessary to prevent it thanks to HAYABUSA.ORG!! Will keep you posted if for some unheard of reason Suzuki says "no".

is it just me...or is ths only happening to the bikes that have RED in the color?

My BL/SV 05 has at least a extra 3/4" of hose beyond the fairing edge.

My Blue/Silver is the first release '05 ( Picked it up Oct '04) Built in September. Perhaps the earlier '05's are the ones with this issue? Anxious to hear Cali's response as far as warranty is concerned. Not doubting they will cover it but I MAY have to call personally to get it done. Dealerships won't try as hard as I will!

well after countless phone calls and a few trips to the stealership. they told me the problem was cause by letting the bike idle to long... wtf? so what happens at a red light? am i suppost to turn my bike off at every red light? its been a month or so since they were suppost to call me back. at this point im thinkin suzukis warranty is pointless and im glad i didnt pay any extra for the extended warranty...

hmm wonder how the other guys are on taking care of their customers...

Is this the dealership telling you this or is it Suzuki? Actually it doesn't matter. Grab your digital camera and a ten bucks. Go fill the bike up. You don't need to overfill it. Ride it a bit but not too long. Grab the camera and then pull the overflow line from the gas tank up from the top side of the lower fairing. The end of the hose will probably be wet from fuel draining out of it. Click ... debate over. If ya wanna borrow my pic to see exactly where and what, send me your e-mail addy and I'll forward it to ya. I took mine at the dealership in front of the service writer after trailering the bike in. He took one too to send to Suzuki.

Surprisingly enough, the dealership seems to agree with me on this issue. I hope I'm not disappointed. If nothing else change dealerships.

Well, Got the call from the Dealership today... My new Fairing should be arrriving in 3 to 5 days if it is stock in the warehouse. He said Suzuki looked at the pictures and approved the claim under the factory warranty.
After the first run-in with the service department I was really not sure how this was going to go. It seems as if they have changed personnel and perhaps their attitude as well. Can't vouch for their knowledge but I will commend them on getting this done.

UPDATE... The dealership called Friday afternoon and said my new replacement fairing is in. Looks like the difference is in the Dealership afterall! For those that did not get the satisfaction due them I would suggest visiting the dealership once more, show them the problem and if they still don't cooperate ask them for the Suzuki Reps phone # AND the number for Suzuki in Brea California. IF they don't give it to ya I will!!

I use to work in a chroming factory playing with a lot of acids. If your paint problem was caused by sulfuric acid . The acid will most likely damage every point(to a degree) of contact on the bike getting to the bottom fairing. The consentration of acid in batteries is fairly p@##ylike compared to others.

I finally was able to take the bike in to the dealership. Now for the story.. I took it in last year around sept oct time frame, told them to figure out a permanent fix and call me well that call never came after months of being on the road for work I called the dealership and he told me Suzuki wasn't going to do anything about the problem. Well I'm sure you know how that went over so I called Suzuki and they told me that was untrue and my claim was still open, now I'm really hot but don't say anything to the service manager about the whole thing cause he ultimately rules if my bike gets fixed or not. However it will be entirely different if they don't fix it everyone in the place will know whats going on and why they shouldn't buy a bike there. Now I play the waiting game. Took it in Mon and haven't heard anything yet. I don't see how they can deny fixing it if we are all having the same problem.
